Hi me again,
Think technology is against me at the moment! When I play music on my ipad/iPhone and then switch to Airplay on the Apple TV the song plays for abot 30 seconds then quits and will not reconnect until I reboot the appletv box. I've tries all kinds of resets on the Apple TV box and all software on all devices is up to date.

Is the Apple TV box knackered??

Are the songs you are playing bought via iTunes or ripped from CDs with iTunes? Does other content do the same eg iplayer only plays for 30 seconds? Has it worked ok before but suddenly stopped? Do you have iTunes Match?
 
Yes I've tried purchased itunes songs,spotify(free version) and yes it all worked fine-I haven't used it for about a month,tried last night and got the problems!get the same issues whether I use my ipad or phone.

Weird. I'll check to see if mine is doing the same later. I hope not.

Mine did do something similar when I first had it and it was related to some protected content issue that it had with some itunes songs. Lots of people had the same issue. It went away after one update. Hope they haven't brought that problem back again.

Also if you have itunes match and their servers are a bit over loaded it can also start doing that where it skips songs and just plays the first half minute or minute and it is basically not buffering them enough.
 
Hmmm will I be able to do the airplay thing if I connect the Apple tv by ethernet?
 
Yes. I have mine connected via ethernet. It will work better if anything. Wireless doesn't really have the bandwidth for heavy streaming if there is anyone else in the house.
