Apple iphone 3G **HELP** last question before i buy...

Right guys and gals.

hope this is the right section but please move or not.

I have noticed that there are quite a few iphone users on here and i just wanted to know if you would recomend it?
i would be getting it on PAYG as i just cant justify a contract when i mainly text and already get a cracking deal from o2.
im looking at the 16gb version as i can get it for £365 at the moment.

so come on people...

whats good, whats bad and whats crap?

*also it might be a silly question but does MSN work on it?

is it worth the money?

any help with this much appreciated as always :thumbs:

i just read that you cant send or receive files via bluetooth but that cant be true surely? :shrug: also heard that you cant send/receive MMS? :thinking:

Well, I ran it flat in less than 4 hours first day I got it. But ever since then, it's been fine. Just need to be aware of what drains power. ie: 3G, auto-fetch.

You are right no file transfer no mms needs charging everynight. I would not be without mine. Not sure I would get on payandgo, I use the net on mine a lot the unlimited data plan makes that easy on the pocket, I am on the £35 tarrif which gives me unlimited data 600 minutes any time any network or landlines plus 500 texts. Once you have used it there is no going back. Oh and by the way I have answered this thread on my iPhone.:)
 
Good to use apart from you can't forward on text messages, I love mine and use it all the time, battery generally lasts me 2>3 days with hourly email usage and internet calls and text regularly during the day

but £365 for the phone plus your PAYG charges and data charges which would be massive I reckon as almost all the features I use have data usage, surely its cheaper on contract £420 a year on a £35/month contract with your calls/text and unlimited data sounds better to me by miles

It is sexy, tactile, functional, sexy... and superb at what it does... :D


It does NOT MMS/send files by Bluetooth or have a great camera... :shrug: ... but that is not why peoples go mad for it... ;) ... battery life is reasonable if you manage the drainers as mentioned by 68lbs...


And you can get a form of MSN for mobillies but it ain't great imhgo... :shrug:


Go for it... you know you want to... :naughty: ... but if you're on O2 already why on earth are you forking out 365 squids for one when you can upgrade from your existing for nowt... :eek:

The Applications you can get for iPhone now are phenomenal on the 3G and there are loads FOC too... ;)

As a handset to use, it's fantastic. The way the phone works is just so intuitive and tactile you'll find yourself doing nothing specific with it other than flicking through menus etc.

There is no MMS capability with the iPhone, so that's worth bearing in mind if you use that function a lot (the camera isn't up to much anyway). There is also no copy and paste function when emailing etc.

Texting is via a full Qwerty keyboard and, with a little practice is a sinch to use. It's that clever it even changes the contact area for specific letters when it thinks it knows what you are typing.

The Wireless connectivity is excellent, and it will remember the networks you connect to and do it automatically when you are in range. There were issues with the 3G signal strength with earlier versions of the firmware, but the latest updates have addressed that.

Similarly, battery life has improved with each update of the firmware, and I can generally get at least two days out of it with heavy(ish) use. Light users will easily pull three or four days from one charge.

The App store is a delight to use, and there are now some really good applications available for download (as well as some really bad ones!).

I don't see me moving away from iPhone for a long long time to be honest.

It just works.

Included in the £365 price is 12 months unlimited data + wifi. i hate the idea of being stuck with an 18 month contract and some months i have good pay packets and some not so good. would rather pay up front now while i well in the black than be stuck with a bill one month when im in the red.

I was serious... it's all in speech bubbles and compared to any previous text i have used it piddles all over it. There is no other way for me to describe it. Lack of feel? Erm, as already said, full qwerty keyboard so it's more like a non-instant msgr than txt.

simmotino sums it up well... it just works
 
mms is a minor annoyance, full email capability makes up for that, bluetooth stupididity is unforgiveable imho, silly mistake tbh. but ive heard that it is likely that it could be upgraded at a later date, the ability is there, its not active

email, cant fault it, imap push is better than fetch. Games are cool, the apps that you can get are good fun, as well as practical..

Well worth doing to be honest. It genuinely isn't everyone's cup of tea, so you need to know that you are happy with the touch screen style interface.

Be warned though, if you do like it, you'll find it hard to put down!
 
Just get a separate bank account pay in the cash you have in your pocket now to buy it and use this for paying your monthly contract, then you can top it up if you have a good month and don't have to worry if you have a bad one.

TBH I think it will severely limit you on PAYG and cost a fortune
 
oh and would it be worth paying the extra for the 16gb? the 8gb is £50 cheaper? :thinking:

i only have about 3gb worth of music tbh but i dont know how much memory i might need for other stuff on the phone?

also is it difficult to get music that i already have on mp3 on my laptop onto the phone?
 
I love mine, and after the recent firmware upgrade I don't have any issues with battery life either.

My car got broken into a couple of weeks ago but I don't feel the loss of my Ipod, as I just use the phone instead :D

I love being able to have a decent copy of my portfolio with me - comes in very handy, and the net access is so good too.

Lastly, I have 2 personal and 1 business email account on it, and it's really useful. It's undoubtedly the best business phone I've ever had, as well as the best "all round gadget". It's also a damn good phone too!

Now go out and get one !!

16gb is only worth it if you have music to fill it, the apps etc take up very little space in comparison

Music is a pop to get onto it using itunes which you install on your laptop
 
Santa is bringing me an 8gb PAYG version and for once I can't wait for Christmas! :lol:

As someone else said the data charges are included for the first 12 months and are then £10 per month after that.

For those that have one already, is the e-mail easy to set up?

If you sync your contacts and emails it automatically set up your email accounts that are set up in outlook on a pc. You just have to put passwords in

And e-mail, like everything else on iPhone is so damn easy even I managed it... :D ... I have five accounts on mine including the me.com from Apple which is brilliant as it synchs on my iMac and Air too and the rest are magical... you will sail it... ;)

just got back from the o2 shop and a havent bought one just yet due to the spotty little oik working there telling me rubbish he was obvioudly making up! :lol:

quick question about email...

i couldnt see a way of setting up my hotmail email on there? i take it you can? anyone use hotmail on theres?
 
can anyone answer the above? im just about to make a move back down the shop before they close @ 4...

also do i really need 16gb or will 8gb be more than enough?
 
I haven't been able setup hotmail on my iPod Touch, I don't think it's possible.

...But Hotmail is rubbish, so why would you want to? Gmail works and is a billion times better!

Hotmail will work in the browser, but obviously that's a pain.

Hi SM, sorry, only just seen your message.

You can't set up Hotmail to use through the mail interface I'm afraid, but the web browser (Safari) on the iPhone is good enough that you can check your mail through the hotmail.com domain easily enough.

Not ideal, but it works pretty seamlessly for me.

As for the size, I've got an 8Gb version, and it's all I need really. Synching albums with your phone through iTunes is so easy you don't necessarily need to have all of your songs on the phone, so can change the albums you have on there from time to time, thus reducing the amount of storage you need.

I currently have 16 apps, 18 different albums (one of which being pretty big) and a dozen or so photographs on there, and I've used about 2Gb of the capacity so far!
 
hi guys. Well I am actually writing this ok my new iPhone 16gb! LOL. Haven't anything apart from log into TP yet so expect to here from me again shortly! LOL

the first one went back within 5 mins of getting it home because the sim slot wouldnt open! i thought it was just me and they manager in the shop looked at me like an idiot before he tried and failed too!

anyway im just trying to get my head around it so expect a million and one questions... prob best to start a new thread for that though:lol:

Bejewelled 2 is a must have app IMO. Perfect for the iPhone.
