Hi

Welcome to TP.

Have a look at at you tube vids.

Not from me, just bought it yesterday. Having a play now :) You can buy a how to use aperture app from the store.

If your mac is newish then how about a few trips for some one to one at the apple store, my father found it very useful for getting started on Aperture

Check out the Seim Fx presets that you can buy - can really speed up your workflow

Only advice is set up a good catalogue structure from the start and use metadata.

I SET MY FOLDER STRUCTURE AS

Year

Inside there is months

The each shoot that month is put into it. Simple and works.

When naming shoots i use the format YEAR_MONTH_DAY_EVENT NAME

e.g. 2012_11_05_Fireworks Night at XYZ

Makes it so much easier to search for things when your library gets BIG

Use Vaults to make backups, it is a simple and painless process that works well in the case of a problem. If you don't have a backup system... GET A BACKUP SYSTEM!!!

Some good tips cheers guys - already have the time machine backup in place, having a look at the seim effects tools as we speak...

It would've good to hear if you would recommend aperture. I'm a mac user looking for editing software. Fairly basic but more than what iPhoto offers.

I'll recommend Aperture, it's the only software I use on photos, learn to use it and it'll do virtually everything you want in a raw editor and asset management package.

Yes some other packages have better noise reduction, but that does not mean Aperture is bad , just not quite the top NR app.

I love Aperture and am new to it - recent graduate from iPhoto. Still haven't needed to use the manual yet or the apple training series I bought. It's quite intuitive. Just watch a couple of you tube vids and then go and buy the Nik Software Silver Effex Pro 2 plugin to make awesome black and white pics and you will be in a glorious playtime paradise.

Cheers

Does anyone know how to get aperture for any less money than the apple store?

Sorry kingal for hijacking thread

Will give it a try

You might be able to pick it up on ebay, but both Aperture 3 and 2 were £100 each to buy and the price drop only came in with the App store.
For what you get it is an excellent price to be fair.
Thanks for the info

I use it, a great addition is the Nik plug in suite that brings Silver Efx Pro, Colour Efx pro, Vizevva, Nik HDR pro etc.

Its easy to use and quite effective

Thanks - will look at getting it to play with over the weekend :)
