Edit My Images
Yes
I recently took an image that somebody likes, a lot, so much so, they want to hang it on their wall...(yeah i know, incredible huh!)

He recently messaged me and asked me if i could send a large file so he can print it out at work for free...:thinking::thinking:

But how do i prevent them from using my file over and over again or worse passing off the image as his own and using it as often as he likes?

What does anyone/everyone else do in this situation? :)

Easy, don't give it to them ;)

Seriously, if they think it's so good they want it on their wall they should be prepared to pay you to supply a print.

Give them a price to send them a print..... what does a single (signed) print go for ? £20 ?

If he's a friend.. get a print done for him at DSCL and either give him it free (if he's a good friend or you owe a favour), at cost (if he's a mate), or with a mark-up of your choosing (if you occasionally use the same bar).

Good quality prints are only a few pounds when you know where to get them.

I have never met the guy before, he saw my image on an online site and PMd me..couldnt even tell you what he looked like :)

Thank you very much for all the helpful replies so far

careful he could be a stalker???

Just tell him you don't supply files, but you can send him a print. Ask him what size he's looking for, so you can quote a price.

This sounds like a very sensible suggestion, thank you :)

I was that guy a year ago! I saw a pic I loved, got in touch with the 'tog on email. One difference may have been that I asked whether he did prints of his pics. Three months later, I was in Whistler and he drove up to the place I was staying in and delivered a mahoosive print of the pic for CAD100 - about £60 - which must have been "at cost".

Well no don't leave it Tezz. Just be straight with him that you charge a little. Then offer again to send him a lovely pro-quality photographic print at whatever small cost you think covers your end...with a touch of profit thrown in.

He’s probably straight up about the interest, just trying it on a little in hindsight. Be nice, talk about how lovely the shot is and beguile him to buy a great product.

Good practice if nothing else.

:)

Ok Adam...what a sensible chap you are :)

Well I have responded. This is what i wrote:-

Hi

I am glad you liked the image and feel flattered you wish to hang it on your wall.

I am sorry but I cannot supply the original file. if you would like a print of the image I can provide you with a costing if you let me know what size image you would like.

I really look forward to hearing from you again.

Kind regards

Tezz

Hope that sounds ok....thanks for the advice everyone...I will let you know if I hear from him again
