Am thinking of installing 'Aperture' in my Macbook pro for photo processing. Has anyone any experience of this program? Opinions please

Its an excellent program Merv, and cheap too.

Just pick a brush and away you go, theres quite a few plugins for it too, like portraiture, which is also good.

Thanks Phil
Will it do all or enough of the common things that Photoshop does because thats what I'm used to. Cant afford to kit out the Mac with CS as well so Aperture will kit out my Mac with a photographic program cheaply. Can it handle RAW images?

Phil just spotted you have a D4. I haven't used mine a lot yet and had a D3s before that. Do you think its all that its cracked up to be. Some say that its not as good as the D3s!

yes, it'll process raw no problem.

it's really extremely good, very simple, straightforward and user friendly.

If you can, get yourself on one of the apple store aperture training sessions - well worth it!

(I use it with CS6, the only thing I don't like about it is the way it deals with shadows - the shadow lift tool tends to lighten across the whole image whereas CS6 only does the shadows)

Hi Merv

Aperture is great for the general stuff of processing images, contrast, levels, saturation and Im sure many more things, what it doesn't do is, the fancy stuff, which PS does, but I never heavily process images, so its fine for me.

As for the D4, I love it. I made the switch from Canon, straight to the D4, so I dont have any hands-on experience with the other Nikon cameras.

CLS and FF, were my reasons for changing.

Maria.

I think you can have multiple brushes of the the same adjustment, where you can just brush in the shadow lift, and not touch the areas which you dont want to.

Hi Phil yes in Apple shop this morning in Belfast and got onto the one/one course. £79 per year unlimited lessons of 1 hour. Bought Aperture also.
Glad you like the D4. I like planes and will be doing the Southport Airshow in September. Trying to encourage myself to get into landscapes

Enjoy Merv, Apple one to one are really good, I had a few when I bought my iMac.

Look forward to seeing the images from the D4.

The D4 is better than the D3s, but not by a lot. The D3s is maybe slightly better at high ISO and native print size. i.e. smaller D3s print compared to larger D4 print or when looking at pixels w/ 100% magnification.

Yes that's correct, doing so allows different amounts of an adjustment to various parts of a photo, all independant of each other.
