Aperture or Elements 11?

I've recently upgraded my laptop to an Apple Macbook Pro. It is already loaded with iPhoto of course but I am trying to decide whether to add Aperture or go for Photoshop Elements 11. All of the blurb on Aperture seems to say that it blends flawlessly with iPhoto and it would appear to offer a good range of functions. My only experience with Elements is with an old version (6) so I am seeking advice from the Forum as to which route to go down. Let me say that I am not very computer literate when it comes to photo processing so would like something that is relatively straightforward to use.

I do have the Canon DPP software on disc but my new laptop does not have a dvd drive so I cannot use it and cannot find anywhere I can download it.

Thanks in advance of any suggestions/help.

Elements 6 is a world away from elements 10 or 11. I would suggest save a bit of money and get Elements 10 there isn't that much difference between the two just different layouts as far as I can tell.

I moved from iPhoto to Aperture and it was indeed a doddle. Aperture does nearly everything I need, EXCEPT things like masking an object and lightening or darkening it, or cloning in an object from another shot... and I don't need those things very often (as in, almost never, so far). Aperture from the Mac App Store is quite a bargain, too...

Thanks for the replies Realspeed and ChrisR - I am tempted to go with Aperture based upon what I have read, ChrisR's comments, the cost and the fact it is an Apple application that should run smoothly with iPhoto. :)

Aperture and Elements do different things. The question should be Aperture or Lightroom really.

I'd get Lightroom over Aperture.

Aperture is definitely a tonne more useful than Elements though.

I bought Elements and I wish I didn't.

Thanks redddragon. Like ChrisR, I doubt that I will use all of the functionality of even Aperture so do not feel it necessary at this stage to go for Lightroom. However, maybe in the future if I really get into the processing thing. Thanks again for your comments. :)

In Aperture, you use the brush in/away feature of any adjustment tool to selectively alter a part of the image, masks are an adobe work around.

You can certainly clone within the same image, but you can't copy and paste from one image to another.

As said above aperture and elements do different things, personally I go aperture over Lightroom and pixelmator over elements or photoshop.

Most of all - get the Nik software suite. Works as a. Plug in within Aperture or Slightroom (guess which I prefer ). Best photo software result per pound.

Just google Silver Effex Pro 2 in utube and gasp. It does all that clever stuff for you and makes photoshop only for really A level pixel based editing.
