Yes
When I use my D7000 at ISO 3200 it definitely needs some NR....have to say that I am not too impressed wtih the Noise Reduction available in Aperture 3 as standard. I've downloaded a trial of Lightroom 3 and I have to say the NR is night and day better in my opinion. Maybe I am doing something wrong in Aperture ? There doesn't seem to be an option to adjust Luminance as there is in Lightroom.

From what I have read the two plug in options for Aperture are Noise Ninja and Define ? Do these achieve comparable results to what Lightoom does ? Obviously buying these plug in's would be a lot cheaper than buying Lightroom3.

Thanks

Well that's true but I already have bought Aperture 3 (I bought it through the App store so it was much cheaper than LR 3). To buy Lightroom 3 costs about the same as buying the complete set of Nik Software Plug In's which is probably better value for me given I already own Aperture ? I would obviously rather not spend that money though.

Maybe I will just download the DeFine trial

Its true LR is accepted to be some way ahead in noise reduction, Im sure Aperture will catch up though.
I assume you're shooting in RAW.

I downloaded the Nik Software plug in last night on trial....it is so much better than the Aperture NR it's ridiculous. Given Aperture 3 is relatively new I can't see Apple upgrading it anytime soon so I will buy the plug in. Even buying Aperture and the Plug in together is much cheaper than buying LR3.
