Would you buy it now? £54.99, but with Aperture 4/X imminent should I wait?

What I don't want to do is she'll out for Aperture 3 now only for Aperture 4/X to be released next week & get no discount (Apple keep silent on release details so who knows when the actual date is likely to be is anyone's guess)

Arrrgghh

How do you know Aperture 4 is imminent?

Just get it, it is great...

It has been imminent for a while, one rumour was for it to be available in April 2012

There has been absolutely no indication whatsoever that a new version is going to arrive...But more interestingly what is missing from the current version which just had a major free update that you would want Aperture 4 despite not knowing what it will bring extra?

Have just purchased Aperture.

The only reason I was thinking about holding off is because a new version would hopefully have some things on par with Lightroom (e.g noise reduction etc), although I think there are plugins that deal with noise a lot better than aperture.

Looking forward to getting to grips with it :)

When you hit the limits of Aperture, then you could extend with Nik Plugins for example. But everything in it, it does well as it is...

I'd agree on noise reduction...I don't think aperture is that good. I got a free trial of the Nik plug in...it was much better. Couldn't justify the £100 to myself at the time though!

Or just go Lightroom :) well supported and you can count on it be updated.

Shame thought that after all those years, Adobe still hasn't learned how to integrate with the Apple Media Browser. Aperture on the Mac has one huge advantage, one photo copy always...No need to export or make copies or anything like that in order to use in another application or share, it is fully integrated with Finder and thus any application on Apple OSX...It is 2012, meta data and searching on it all the way, from which application regardless of having Aperture open or not...Only been like that since the product was launched...

PS. Lots of updates have happened for Aperture, a major one only a couple of weeks ago. It is not like it is not being updated at all. RAW Processing updates for new cameras are being added very regularly as well.
PPS. Support is fantastic, you can go to any Apple store and get 'free' (part of your one-to-one package) unlimited training on the product...

You don't have to export in Lightroom to make an edit. You choose edit in another app like Photoshop, do your work and save. How does Aperture do it differently? Honestly they are both good programs. I used to use Aperture when it first came out but I felt that Adobe was paying more attention and addressing the issues of photographers.

Agreed both are good programmes. And on a pc it would be the first I would get.

I am not talking about edits, works the same in aperture.

I am talking integration for consumption in other apps. Say you send an email with the photos attached, no need open aperture just click on attach file and a media browser opens up in the finder window which shows your organisation with aperture and you can pick the one you want or search on any of the meta data applied etc. likewise for integration in absolutely anything.
