Interesting to read the Amateur Photographer review of the d300 and 7d. I have always valued very highly the opinions of this mag. Im not sure all mags are quite so impartial.

I do wonder though if Nikon knew what was coming (the Canon is rated higher than the Nikon) as they placed a massive Nikon supplement right in the middle of the review!

A lot of rubbish is reported on the net but it does appear that Canon have got most of it right with the 7d.

Maybe things are swinging back to Canon - ultimately the competition should benefit us all.

It is quite funny where that supplement has been stuck.

I think though there's not much in it with Canon scoring 89% and the Nikon 87%. You could read another magazine's review and it might be the other way around. Both brands will have their devotees.

I always take mag reviews with a large pinch of salt mine.
Sometimes when I look at comparitive pictures taken I don't see what the reviewer describes.

I read it this morning (a vested interest as my 7D arrived last week!) and was a bit disappointed that just about the whole review seemed to be about the AF systems. Yes, there were brief bits about the video and metering etc but as a comparative review, it seemed a little thin. I perhaps expected more on the respective image quality, some more comparisons on the controls (no pictures of those!) etc.
As a Canon man, the review still didn't matter to me but I still would have liked to see a bit more in it.

I had a read through it this morning and can see where you are coming from.
Other thing is that in terms of image quality the cameras use different lenses so that in itself will separate the cameras.

true but they could use Sigma etc on both

Yes, and that may be a better way to compare the bodies.

Neigh on impossible to make the call really, the 7D is a Canon D300.

Which to be fair probably offers you the best of both worlds - the D300 with Canon glass.

If I still had Canon stuff, I'd have bought one because its what the 50D should have been.

I've just moved from the D300 to the 7D. The 7D feels well designed and there's a big improvement in the liveview on the 7D compared to the D300. Since getting the camera I haven't had much of a chance to use it due to the bad weather recently.
