Wife and I will have 1 or 2 days to kill time in Brighton in mid October, not been to Brighton before. Any recommendations on what to see or do. Hopefully weather will be dry. Only thing I know about Brighton was the mods & rockers from the 60s & 70s☺
 
Couldn't help having a little giggle at their "How to find us" link. Not so much the contents as that a 450' pillar on the sea front is going to be pretty hard to miss!!!
 
I live locally but a lot depends on what you enjoy doing. A walk around The Lanes is good for shopping (some decent pubs there as well) and close to the seafront. Also the Royal Pavilion is worth a visit and then there is the 77 bus (often open top) which will take you up to Devil's Dyke which will give great views along the South Down Way, the Sussex Weald, and Poynings. All these suggestions are good for photography.
 
not been back there since the mods and rockers events ,i can remember marc feld( aka marc bolan) inciting a lot of the trouble

Been going there on & off since I was a little kid with my folks, cycled there and motorcycled there as a teen, courted there too, though I've not been back in about 15 years, not least that it's too far now and too busy. Walk along the front, go on the pier (if it's still open) look round the lanes and the interesting shops, visit the pavillion.

It used to be rabidly anti-car (be aware that if they could fine you, they would) and it was becoming rainbow-multicultural, which may be attractive or the opposite depending on your perspective. If it was like it used to be in the 60's/70's then it would be fantastic, but from memory it's now really crowded and looks a lot like everywhere else.
 
The best thing I ever did in Brighton was leave.
 
Thanks for the info guys, sounds like enough to keep us occupied for a couple of days.
Won't be taking the car Toni, we will be in London to see Seasick Steve at Wembley stay the night then train down to Brighton following day. possibly take train back to Gatwick and fly somewhere warm for a few days rather than come back north of the border ...If I can get away with it.

I second that. I attended a boarding school at Brighton and then onto a sciences course at Brighton Technology College as a teenager in the early '80's - and truly hated every second of it and felt homesick the whole time. I dropped out of that sciences course after two years to return to my proper home town of Folkestone and have stayed here ever since. I could only think of Brighton being smelly, damp and overcrowded with very little in the way of redeeming features.

Unfortunately they have a no photography policy inside. The exterior is ok though but they also have a temporary ice rink up every now and again which can get in the way of photography.

Having said that, it is still very much worth a visit.

Can only say I was amazed by the architecture/decorations. Shame about photog ban, but colours etc but to do it justice, I think it would need a dedicated visit with good gear and a talent for that sort of photography.

But visit anyway..........................

And most of all enjoy your holiday and get some weather in which we can all enjoy.......
 
Forgot to mention the new i360 observation tower on the seafront (near the West Pier) which I believe costs around £13 for an adult. The platform takes around 7 minutes to go up (450 feet) and the same for it's downward journey after stopping for about ten minutes at the top. Great for all round views so might be worth checking out.

glad you're not driving.

just spent the last 2 days there for work and trying to navigate town by car was a nightmare. parking prices are a shocker too even for a seaside area.

although i was working i couldn't help how run down and seedy it was looking these days.

Had my first party there when I came to the UK; never seen so much sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll in my life. Made Amsterdam look tame.
