Yes
I have a iPhone 4S which has a 8mp camera, and is not bad for a carry round for quick snaps

I was wondering if there is any apps available to improve the functionality of the camera or optimise it ?

Camera+ allows you to meter from any part of the image the same as you focus. The std camera meters from your focus point. Camera+ is awesome.

Is it worth the £1.49 ;)

It's worth £19.99

Seriously, It's quicker for me to meter a shot on the Iphone than on any camera I've ever used.

I have to say the iphone was a lot easier to use in indoor low light situations at Chester zoo, such as the giraffe house

Than to adjust my 40d

You're kidding, right?

No

I couldn't use flash as it illuminated the bars of the enclosure and made them show up on the photo

But the iphone handheld without flash was a lot quicker to use than adjusting my 40d handheld without flash

Plenty of FREE light meter apps available if £1.49 is too expensive :D

Les ;)

another for camera+ it's ace!

and free lightmeter is pretty cool too

I don't want to be argumentative, but I'm really struggling to understand this. My main camera is a 40D so I know it quite well. I can change the shutter speed, aperture, ISO and drive mode without taking my eye from the viewfinder. How much easier does it get?

Oh please do , it's so much more fun that way ;)

No but in all fairness, the lighting was just too low to get a good shot even with high ISO, low shutter speed and wide aperture and a couple of stops of exposure comp, it would have been fine if I could use flash but that bounced back horribly off the bars

So unless I'm missing something , it was just easier to get a quick snap on the iphone.

Plus I should mention it was handheld , no tripod or monopod

It is important to realise that you will never get detailed 8MP files out of it. You will be very lucky to compress that sharp detailed Full HD size. That is phone marketing department hard at work. You could almost believe that the latest nokia can compete with Hasselblad

I use mine for serial numbers and other similar snapping, but I've also seen OK abstracts (something that doesn't need resolution).
