Anyone worked for Lidl UK?

Opening for Assistand manager at our local branch starting on £21k so I'm applying. Just wondering what the company is like. I assume it's going to be a much more streamlined, efficient and target based than Spar (A.F. Blakemore)?

I'm assuming there'll be a lot more work involved that being an assistant manager at any other supermarket, there doesn't seem to be a lot of standing and pointing by the guy wearing the AM badge at my local Lidl like there is whenever I see management on the shop floor in asda

When I worked in Tesco way back in 1979 the the Manager was always on the shop floor, the assistant Manager often helped stack the shelves and other such chores. Can't recall ever seeing an assistant Manager, let alone a Manager on the shop floor of an Asda. Not unless they have ditched the suits and now also wear green ?

I see managers of all departments on the shop floor in Asda. But they are having a huge management restructure across the uk. i think with the smaller supermarkets leading the way in this. (and no they do not wear green still in suits)

The manager and his assistant work on the shop floor at my local Lidl store and very polite they are too. They appear to be a much nicer set of people than the Aldi staff in the same town.

I was chatting to the assistant manager at Lidl last Wednesday, who was working at the checkout and he said he had been there since 4am that morning! He went on to explain that he also does the in store baking, hence the early start.

Judging by the length of time the staff seem to have been at our local Lidl, they can't be bad to work for. They seem to work hard but are generally happy in that work (and I've never heard them grumbling sotto voce about management, unlike Tesco where that seems to be a popular hobby!)

Not sure where you live John but i wish ours would stay off the bloody shop floor pains in the bum they are.

A friend of mine has worked as a store manager for lidl or aldi (i always get mixed up between them..) and they expect silly hours. But she has been working there for a few years, so it cant all be bad!

Again no different to now! This year is pretty tame, just got in now, but last year I was doing 12 hours a day at the shop and another 5 hours each morning in the garage - and I still can't afford a new lens!
