I need help

As above please ??????????

Tried phoning 100 times today " Im sorry " then cut of

Sent my licence and HGV medical to DVLA 16 August , Licence expired Mid September
Still not had my new licence , Tried to hire a 7.5 Ton lorry " No Sir not without your licence " NO photocopys either

I'd have thought you could download the licence details from the website like they used to require for hiring cars if you didn't have both card and paper, using your licence number? (if you know it)

No that wont work as I needed to pay £50 for a HGV medical , send the renewal and the doctors report and my old licence , The plastic one , I need that as it has the from and too dates and on the back it has all the types of vehicles I can drive , Can't do that on a download .

DVLA have spoken of a large backlog of applications & renewals.....................if you cannot reach them AFAIK they have a complaints procedure though that may not get you the more urgent response that you need but at least you can add your voice to the, I surmise, list of those who have been let down!

Hopefully you license will arrive soon

Edit
I see they have this page to 'track your driving license', I wonder if that would give you any clarity as your progress in the system?

Hmmm! though another read of that page suggests it is aimed at brand new license applications! But worth a try, perhaps...............................or not depending if the reference number they mention is also of the type for renewals!

PS which phone number have you been trying? This one https://www.gov.uk/contact-the-dvla/y/driving-licences-and-applications

Not helpful I know ... but a friend got his back last week having sent it for renewal in June ...

Good luck!

DVLA have been in crisis since pretty much early doors of Covid, I would not expect to see it back any time soon at all.
I think the thing here matey is you should have applied for renewal months ahead

Not helpful but had a letter from them last week as my photo card expires i Nov. Went online, used my passport photo the government have, and paid at 4.30pm on Thursday last week. Arrived yesterday (Monday)!

This website tells you your entitlements.

Might not help with your current situation mind.

You can't apply until you get the forms through the post from DVLA , If it was that simple I would have done it.
Medical forms and the licence renewal forms , This is a HGV application not a std car licence

Mrs Badger hasn't had her license now since Feb , DVLA have fallen apart they are either on strike or unobtainable by phone !. She has a 3 year restricted license where she has to prove she is still safe to drive ( Diabetic) All the medical stuff was done way before time but DVLA have been impossible to contact. Technically she can still drive under section 88 but no one seems to want to risk this very grey area. Three people at work have the same problem with thier HGV license but the organization will not risk the section 88 thing, so no one can have any holiday otherwise the thing falls apart ( being a key worker has been a night mare) I wonder how much damage to people DLVA have caused ? Job loses and then all the related fall out. Luckily for me I have another 2 years to run before my HGV runs out. Oddly I changed address 4 months ago I change address for 4 vehicles and myself and they all returned in the same week ?

I can see this lack of HGV drivers thing getting a lot worse once DVLA have finished ! Looking at the below links it is so unclear, a simple error on your application can mean you are driving without a license along with many ifs and buts. Doctors are now being forced to do DVLA's work for them and maybe liable if they get it wrong many will not do so.

I have one medical condition so can't just get a licence , They need to see the doctors report that is all part of the HGV medical that costs £50

I needed my licence renewed after a medical problem. Even after the consultant cleared me on the DVLA form, it took more than 3 months until I had a licence again. As for telephoning, it was a waste of time. Of course COVID was not the excuse in 2019 so if they are claiming that now, how do they explain that they were incompetent before COVID. Best to stir it up with your M.P. If enough M.P.'s are wound up perhaps they will press the Government to do something.

This link claims to show how much of a delay there is in getting your DVLA application processed, it's not good news. 6-10 week delays for most 'paper' applications.

Workers at DVLA have been taking industrial action against the employer because of the apparent poor working conditions during the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to high levels of infection amongst staff. Rumour has it agreement was reached between the trade unions and management but this was vetoed by a minister who wanted to act 'tough'......

As I understand it, the lack of any electronic document scanning & online storage of paper applications means staff working at home have no access to incoming mail.

I did hear of this a year ago , The Boss at DVLA told employees to switch of their phones so they would not get pinged and told to isolate for 2 weeks

The DVLA are pretty useless at the best of times and the medical section are worse that the rest. Lob covid into the mix and it's a perfect excuse for them to be even more inefficient than usual.

Hope you get your issue sorted relatively quickly.

A few years ago (well over 15) my licence came back after the 10 year renewal without my motorcycle group included. Took me me about 3 months of phoning, letters & emails before they eventually admitted they'd made a mistake. Luckily I still had my pass certificates, thanks to Mrs J keeping "everything".

I'm in a similar situation but for me it's just my normal licence, I didn't want the medical exam hassles when I reached 65 so didn't bother to renew my HGV.
I have to review my licence every 3 years, tried to do it in advance in July but for some unknown reason couldn't do it this time, so I filled in their form and posted it back to them in good time, but have still heard nothing.

I can see a potential problem if I have an insurance claim, but there's nothing I can do about that.

My sister had the same problem, she sent off for her licence renewal in February and heard nothing. She's one of those people who knows everything and won't be told, and she's convinced that she can't drive without it and so has now given up driving, which makes me feel safer:)

I work for a Government agency and had exactly the same thing , absolutely nothing put in place other than a number of impossible to do memos and posters, policies that were ignored by everyone including management. They atempted to say as we are key workers we don't have to abide by the Government regulations plus this Covid thing increased our work load by at least three times. Unfortunately it seems to me that all Government agencies are run by idiots that don't have a clue what they are doing.
