Anyone using this umbrella adapter?

Looks identical to the neweer ones, got a couple and never had a problem with them, save yourself a couple of quid and get the newer ones

Don't scrimp on them or you end up buying twice. Look on Amazon for Calumet ones.

Thanks for the replies. Checked with the vendor, the adapter is plastic so think will give it a miss.

Either of these Calumet ones ( they're both available unbranded elsewhere) would do the job, I have both kinds and no complaints with either

Thanks, am going to go for the top one as I need a coldshoe for the radio trigger.

You can buy coldshoes separately, the locking ones are only about a fiver.

Ok, but the ones in your post are both the same price on the Calumet website, so the top one is the best deal(?)

Have a look on Ebay and Amazon, I would think you should be able to find both types there without the branding, as Calumet just buy them in from the same suppliers as everyone else.

Though having now scoured ebay & Amazon, buying direct from Calumet looks like the cheapest option

Really? The one with the coldshoe is £20 from Calumet and £7 from Ebay. Ok, it's from HK but that's nearly three times as much.....

I use them all the time, got our on ebay from HK for £2.88 each inc delivery.

I look after my kit, so i'm always nervous when I put them on to these, but that would be the same for any bracket. Use these with the Nissin 866mk II's

It always amazes me that people do this, it's the same with camera straps, they have a piece of delicate electronic equipment that cost hundreds of pounds yet opt for the very cheapest way possible to prevent them meeting the terra firma

Yep really dont fancy taking any chances with my SB700, cost me an arm and a leg!

Had two and guess what two spontaneously self dismantling adapters:thumbsdown::thumbsdown:
I use these nowhttp://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Metal-Tilt-Swivel-Stand-Umbrella-Flash-Adapter-Zone-1-/160749838826?pt=UK_Photography_StudioEquipment_RL&hash=item256d6fe1ea
They are nice and strong holding 4x560YN flashes with a sizable octa box they are firm as a rock

Just bought a Konig light stand and am now looking for an umbrella adapter - this looks like a decent compromise between the £25 manfrotto one and the cheapo £5 Neweer plastic ones.

Glad you're having more luck with them than I did, the screw attaching the coldshoe simply snapped, although Trevor is on record as saying he personally replaces the screws on every one of those he sells with a heavy duty one had specially made, and as I have no reason to doubt his word I'm sure they will be fine :)

Personally I'd rather buy something a bit more substantial though....

Its the same device so of course im going to find the cheapest price for the same product.

Ive seen similar product for £65, why would you spend £65 on a bracket for a flash gun that ways less than a bag of sugar.

Someone is charging £65 for that? Or do you mean "same" in the way a Vauxhall Corsa and a Porsche are the same?

I bought the manfrotto ones at £20. A bit expensive but then buy and forget. My weakest link now is when using radio trigger, rf603 has no lock on the cold shoe. Watched an sb900 fall six feet to concrete at a wedding last weekend, thankfully it survived but definately need something better.

I have the 603s as well. Couldnt that be sorted by tightening the clamp a bit more and/or adding a bit of packing (eg strip of rubber)?

I have one of those from that seller and the screw is most certainly bent. Most it's had on it is a cheap brolly and a YN-467. flash. I will replace it at some point, possibly with the Link Delight one if people rate it. If not I'll go Manfrotto.

I think I've had most variants of umbrella clamps over the years, the cheapest ones are pretty poor to be honest, even down to how smooth they are to adjust etc never mind stripped threads and cracked housings. I think I got some off FITP which I still have and they're fine after a couple of years and I've got Calumet and Manfrotto ones. I've had no issues with any of them other than the Ebay/HK ones which just disintegrate but I do use mine in rough locations. Money no object I'd have the Manfrotto ones over any of them, if I wanted value for money I'd buy from FITP again. I'd skip the Calumet ones I think, they're nearly as dear as a Manfrotto one and not as good to use but Calumet win for convenience if I need to go and get one right now.
