Anyone using IRIX 15mm F2.4?

I have had a blackstone version on Nikon mount for about a year. Got nothing but positive things to say about it though don't use it as much as I could/should. There are some really nice innovations on this lens, particularly if using for astro. The click infinity is very handy and can be calibrated. The flourescent markings on the lens is a nice idea but relies on the lens being left somewhere light prior to shooting which I almost never remember. Construction is really nice and everything feels high quality. Not quite Zeiss levels but it's got more in common with a zeiss lens that a typical modern Nikon offering. 95mm filter thread is a great feature if you're a filter used. Not many lenses in this category can do that without special kits. And if you have a 95mm polarised, the hood has a nifty little window allowing you access to the polariser to adjust it. IQ seems good though I haven't had much to compare it to. It's not free from Coma but reading reviews, it doesn't seem particularly better or worse than any other lens.

I also have this this lens albeit the other model (the plasticy one) but dont let that fool you, it has the same optics as the Blackstone, its just lighter.
Really lovely lens, as you may have seen, they have rear gel filters also if you wish and they are cheap as chips although they are a bit flimsy and to take them out of the rear and is a PITA imo and they wont last that long.
Look on flickr or 500PX, i`m sure you will see some lovely photos taken with these lens.
Have a look at my flickr page, as i`m not doing macro atm, I have been out and about the last couple of weeks and this lens has hardly left my D750.
Lightroom (if your a user) has the lens correction supported there now so all good there.
IMO, go for it, its a lovely lens oh and soon they will be releasing a filter kit especially for this lens.

Thanks for the feedback, going to try one in the local camera shop this weekend

Simon
I hope you like it oh and they are sharp.

While we're talking about the Irix, has anybody tried to use this with a Lee 100 filter system? I see that you can only buy 95mm adaptors in 'standard' design rather than wide design so my assumption would be that it will vignette like crazy but anyone actually tried it?

As I understand Irix will be releasing a front filter system in the near future. Regarding your enquiry will the Lee filter system, no idea, sorry.

Cheers. I'd spotted that Irix were intending to offer something. I'd rather not end up with two systems though. Just a thought at this stage. Never actually felt much need to use filters with the Irix as it's predominantly been an astro lens but would be nice on occasion.

@simonkit I have just seen that Irix are having a sale, look on their FB page if you are on there or try their site.

@simonkit there is a Irix in the for sale ads on here, it's the alloy one but being sold at the plastic ones price.

This did occur to me too, having just purchased some Lee 100mm kit and then realised there was a 15mm lens out there with front filter threads!

I can see why a wide adaptor doesn't exist. I think the depth that the groove that the filter holder would normally clip into would overlap the outer diameter of the lens with the wide design, hence it simply could never fit. I cannot imagine the standard adapter would work without blocking the corners.

I wouldn't have thought so - that'd be too easy! :D
