Anyone using a canon 1dx & 5dmk4 ?

The short version is that both are absolutely superb at high ISO (to me that's 6400 and above - YMMV), and the 5d4 deals with shadow detail a little better. The AF question takes a little more thought and depends on subject and equipment. If you're looking to use a big white supertele, then your going to get a faster drive of the AF with the 1 series with its better battery power, but both have superb capabilities when it comes to holding AF on the subject, and your skill will be the defining difference here.
Could you give a bit more info on your intended use and your normal output - web or large prints?

Is this fact, Mike, or just supposition? I ask because the 7DmkII behaves like 1srs bodies at initial acquisition (perhaps momentarily over-sourcing the battery power or the derived 6v)....Canon stated that this was the first non-1srs body to do this and it seems unlikely that they left the feature off the 5DMkIV.

From people I know who have spoken to Chuck Westfall on the matter. This includes people form the explorers program
I used to have a 7d2 and whilst it has its plusses I could never get it to compete with the 1dx on drive speed. I know some very good photographers shooting fast birds in flight with the 5d4 so its far from a slouch, but each and every one of them chooses the 1dx / 1dx2 when speed of AF is of the essence.
The 5d4 has a huge amount going for it, and I was very close to getting one - and probably would if I had the money, but that's why I feel its important to know what the OP needs exactly

I'm asking as I have a 1Dx which I like very much but tbh its a bit of a beast to carry about am thinking about changing to 5dmk4 but can only do that if the autofocus is significantly better than the 5dmk2 which I have used and if its sensor also gives better images esp at iso above 1600/3200

The 5D4 sensor shades the 1DX in all aspects except for dynamic range at higher ISO. At lower ISO the 5D4 is much better in dynamic range. The AF on the 5D4 is way better than a 5D2

I still think that the 1DX has the edge although I've no complaints about the 5D4. I think the dual processors in the 1DX give it the edge over the other cameras although this "edge" might only be apparent in certain circumstances.

I tested a 5D4 and 1DXii to help me decide which to purchase. Not lab clinical testing and I took into account the difference in megapixels by framing the shot for equivalence using the same lens as opposed to resizing the resultant image. What I do remember was that at 10,000 to 12,800 ISO I found the 1DXii had better dynamic range and also less noise than the 5D4 in that scenario.

The 1DX MKII is slightly better overall Robin but considering the increase in resolution of the 5D4 it's pretty close.

....At first it is easy to think that the 30 megapix of the 5D4 would trump the 20 megapix of the 1DX2 but I am told that there is more to it than that and IQ isn't always just about the megapix number.
The 1DX2 dual processors doubtless help increase the AF speed when tracking too. I find myself attracted to what 14fps can potentially deliver.

The images from both cameras are lovely. I use the 5D4 for macro and close up and Astro. The extra resolution gives me a bit more leeway with focus distance and hence depth of field.

Having tendencies to be a bit of a gear slut from time to time, I found myself missing the 10 fps of my 7D2 when shooting some Little Egret action with my 5D4. I love the IQ which the 5D4 offers but wish it was faster than 7 fps when I need it. Hence my sudden interest in the 1DX2 as it can shoot 14 fps but we all know that there is no such thing as the perfect camera! As my 5D4 is only a few weeks old I would expect a good price for it and so the spend on a 1DX2 would be helped.
The extra resolution is valuable to me for the same reasons you describe and so I have decided to keep my 5D4 and almost certainly upgrade my 7D2 to a 7D3 when it exists in the future. Whichever cameras I use it isn't going to guarantee me better photos of course!
