Hi, i just ordered one and already looking forward to using it. It is one of the new models with the gasket to help prevent light spill. I understand from a review there can be a slight cast from the filters ability to pass uv? I have the cokin P system, got a cokin nd8 soft grad which is just perfect but i also have a dirt cheap solid nd8 which puts the colours on an acid trip of magenta lol also, i use the two P types stacked with a screw in nd8 and sometimes get more lens flare than a 70s detective show (if that makes sense?)
so my question is, will i like this filter as opposed to the frankenfilter setup i have been using thus far?
And before you say, no i can't afford the lee gobstopper...which is like rocking horse **** cos EVERYONE is ordering one and i heard is supposedly extremely fragile!?
 
I've ordered one too.. Waiting for delivery now.. Will let you know next week :)
 
I've had both P series Pro Stop (x2, the first one blew into the sea after 1 shot, oops) and 100mm (Lee size), they're very good now they have a gasket to stop light leaks, they do have a cast but you can work around it.

They're not quite as good as the Big Stopper which is very close to neutral but you can buy them, unlike the Big Stopper (I ordered mine in May and received it in December).
 
I did make sure it was the new type. As I've read the reviews lol
I don't tend to go chasing many sunsets, most of my landscapes end up mono with the exception of a few so can put up with a bit of cast. Well its dispatched according to my account but won't be using it til next week now (BOOO) work commitments. Got a feeling its gonna be burning a hole in my camera bag lol

Don't forget to cover your camera viewfinder. If its Canon, you will find the rubber cover on the original strap (sorry if I'm teaching you to suck eggs!)

It's surprising how many folk forget this and any light leakage, no matter how tiny, really does affect the end result.

Mines arrived today.. Nicely packaged up. Now to use it - need some weather :)

Yeah, the olympus e3 has a built in viewfinder shutter ;) i use it every time exposures get near 30 sec rather handy!

Crooked imaging on ebay have stock - the crooked imaging website doesn't - however I ordered from crooked imaging website directly, not ebay, and it still came :) No delays.

Nahh Im sure its fine lol god Damm weekend to get through now before i can give it a whirl.
Gettin some nice results with two nd8s stacked at the moment though but feeling like I've gotta shoot ALL my long explosion landscrapes again now!
 
I'd be interested to see how it goes for you with your new filters. I tried a couple a little while back and got a horrible blue cast on dullish overcast days and a horrible red/magenta cast on bright days where I was shooting anywhere near into the sun.

I experienced the red cast until I started covering the eye piece. I've not had that issue since though I don't know for sure that isn't just coincidence. That one was a particular problem because it only affected part of the image so couldn't easily be corrected. Luckily seems to have disappeared now.

I also noticed that you need to very careful to make sure that the gasket is sealing all round.

The blue cast is very evident but can be completely removed by shooting raw and adjusting afterwards.

This is the gasketed newer version. Not tried the old one.
 
Hmm had a little play with it before i left for work this morning and even though it was a quick test Im not all that happy at the moment, the blue cast is ridiculous, tried the white balance range but that just made things green! I know its not a proper test and i've not viewed or even tried any post process on the desktop but yeah, defiantly got the blues lol

Mine was pretty strongly blue (Big Stopper is pretty much neutral in comparison), so it must be normal.
 
Right then, just got home from work, got the old grey card out and shot my custom wb and hey presto nearly bang on! Not got the blues anymore! Never dawned on me to try setting a custom wb on a long exposure and its easy with my camera, one touch setting. Tried it on my brothers d3 when he had it and it was a real faff! Can't wait to try it out now
 
The first one they sent me had a horrendous blue colour cast that could not be corrected. I sent it back and they sent me another one which was much better (slight blue cast), and then sent me a second one.

I picked one up from crooked imaging a few weeks ago. Went to their offices, nice guy and very friendly. Gave me all kinds of tips. Only went for the 10stop but ended up walking out with a few other bits and peices!

I think this varies from one filter to another people seem to get Lee big stoppers with no colour cast others I have seen have a strong colour cast. You certainly seem to have hit on a good copy going off your example. The ones I had (Lee) had a definite blue cast but nothing that couldn't be corrected so I don't see it as a problem.

The Hitech filters I have had are the same as the Lee big stoppers the cast seems to vary from one copy to another, but again they are easily corrected in Photoshop so no real problem.

The only 10 stop filter I have with minimum colour cast is the B&W but I have seen people complain about them having a warm colour cast.

I think with 10 stoppers if you get one with the attitude that you are going to have a colour cast of some description to sort out you won't be dissapointed. Then if yours has minimal cast then that is a bonus.
 
ok so i managed to get an hour in today and visited a spot. i have corrected the colour to an extent, still a little red in the rocks for my liking but this is where im at so far. dunno if you can see the horrible noise??? im running an e3 (4/3ds!!!) and i know the sensor is prone to noise but i never really push exposures further than a minute. i have read that upping the iso to reduce shutter speed can help, athough i feel the higher iso will compound the problem even further with my camera
