Yes
And can recommend them and the easy build it yourself solution, had a play about and seems very easy to get a site up and running thats not too shabby for a couple of hours clicking.
Anyone have a live site I could have a look at or one you have customized.

Thanks.

I use them for my domains but sites like squarespace.com and wix.com for hosting. They could be classed as expensive but the templates and website building apps are world class. Both offer free trails and in the case of wix.com you can have a free site.

Domain names yes, hosting etc they wouldn't be my choice :)

This, and Wix/Vidahost. I always keep hosting and domain separate, because I can always point the domain to a new supplier if I have problems. Being tied into both means you risk losing your domain name if your host gets uppity and is in the same place.

If you have a site with wix and you decide to migrate to a new host do they let you migrate out or would you have to rebuild your site from scratch?

Pro Am Imaging were affected by the problems.
They emailed their customers (me included) to advise to get orders to them via another method.

I was looking into going with 123Reg until that point.

Look at tsohost and pickaweb.
123-reg and 1and1 are far less than satisfactory for hosting IME.

Maybe it's time we at TalkPhotography clubbed together for a few VPS or dedicated web hosting servers...

I'm not aware of any ability that *any* of the site builders have to export your site locally so you can then upload it somewhere else. You'd have to use dedicated hosting (like Vidahost for example) to host something like a Wordpress site, which you could then copy to your PC and re-up on another provider.

The big difference is whether you use a 'site builder' (Wix, Squarespace, Format etc) which creates your site using a pretty user interface, or something more hands on / open source like Wordpress, or Joomla. The latter will require a lot more work from you to get it working how you like (and to keep it updated), but you can make copies of it. The former is restricted to the vendor's user interface and is rarely 'transportable' to another host.

I've had numerous domain names, and two hosting packages with them for the last eight years or more. No issues (fingers crossed) ☺

Square Space allows you to export the content but not the site design if using one of their templates

Thanks everyone for your feedback and heads up on this company, Going to take a look at WIX, VIDAHOST domains are with 123, but makes good sense to host elsewhere.

This site has influenced many decisions for me and they have all been on the button thus far!

Huge thanks to all contributors to the thread.

123reg is something I will avoid for hosting .. move couple of my friends website few months back due to server delete and regular email downtime issues with them, I personally use : WebhostUK
from last 4years their support has been very good ,never faced any major downtime.

+1 for tsohost. Used 123-reg for SSL certs rather than hosting. Reasonable to deal with unless you need support which is appalling
