Hi guys.

i have been using wordpress for many years but now starting to feel a little frustrated at how little these themes can be edited to suit..

does anyone use Joomla... i used to play around with them about 4-5 years back but then got bored and moved onto wordpress.. but i think now wordpress has lacked the cms that joomla looks like it can offer...

so if you use joomla... do you edit your themes or have you just bought them.

I use joomla, quite a steep learning curve and I'm using it for a personal website for my photo's plus for learning. I've just integrated wordpress into it for my learning log/blog so another thing to learn.

There's a program called artisteer which helps you make themes, or there are plenty of ones around for free/paid for.

I run a joomla website at www.0-21.co.uk see website linky in sig
I have written plugins etc for it for years, but have recently been playing with wordpress 3 and am impressed with it. depends what you want your site to be really

Hi Andy - not seen you around the forum in a while.

My site runs on Joomla (and at some point I will be adding more content to justify the Joomla base!) It looks more like a 'traditional' website than the more blog/news oriented sites Joomla is often used for.

I built it myself (although I use a couple of modules and plugins from other sources).

hi mark.. yeah been busy. im opening a studio in west moor on the 16th.

very impressive sites.. i like the eye-fi one... thats something im looking for... i can create static html website but im unable to make it more dynamic.

i want to create my own look matt... i want it to look similar to the eyefi website above but when ever i try and move things round and make my own theme the them just doesnt work

Hi Andrew,
I use joomla a lot, as others have said there is a steep learning curve, I usually purchase templates, but I've also waded into the code to modify the standard BEEZ template (see http://www.listentothepeople.co.uk - that is BEEZ ) and some free templates. Joomla has a very sophisticated override mechanism built in, but, there's always a but, you'll need good php, css and a willingness to get your hands dirty. There is some very good support available from joomla forums. Once you get your head around how the different parts of a template interact with core Joomla it's not so bad - but that's a coder talking.

A studio in West Moor? Where abouts? I was playing football at West Moor earlier this evening!

I'll have to come along and have a look at some point.

As others have said, Joomla is tough to get used to... we 'had' to use it for a client and it was a nightmare. Once you DO know it though I've seen some cracking sites running it.

yeah i was really into it about 4-5 years back.. but compared to joomla its a nightmare to get things done quicky... and i havent got the time to be fanning around lol.
