Anyone use giff gaff ? thinking of moving

GG user here too with just one outage for a brief spell sometime last year.
Have both my daughters on £5 unlimited texts per month, I am on £10 goodybag and the mrs is just on the standard payg tariff - we all get free calls to each other.
Saves me a fortune....
 
Oh dear,

a couple of days after leaving my orange contract my phone has gone KAPPUt!

b****r, think im going to struggle to get orange to replace the phone (even though its only a week or so old...)
 
If its only a week old surely it'll be covered under manufacturers warranty?

This thread kind of suggests to me that payg doesn't rate too highly anymore..... unless you want to use it just for emergencies ? Im gonna suggest my parents change from payg.

Was hoping not to have to deal with the manufacturer, but will if i must...

RE PAYG, there are so many short / low cost 30 day contracts available it odesnt seem to be a sensible option.

Well, just had a look at orange PAYG prices

For £10 on orange you get
100 free minutes plus 100 texts

On Giff Gaff, £10 gets you
250 UK minutes
Unlimited UK texts
1GB internet
Free to giffgaff

Not sure how (un)competitive other networks are...

Hi John,

Brilliant for free!! - If only they had unlimited data! It looks to me for use over the above, giffgaff is cheaper though..
 
If someone gives you something for free then you are the product. I'd be wondering how ovivo made their money...what of yours are they selling? Mobile browsing habits, who you call, who you know on FB, where you go?

You surly cannot expect unlimited data for FREE... that wont happen :nono:

But its a good service from the use I have had and you can also buy packs to add on if you like (I have never needed to)

I have never seen ANY evidence of that, no more emails or spam or cold calls since joining

Well I mostly use the web at home on my phone but even out and about I cannot remember seeing those ads... ??

How is it "almost free" -yeah you buy the SIM card but they give you that money back ?

So they put £10 back in your hand?

It costs £10 for a sim and you get £10 of calls etc.
hence the 'almost free' :shrug:

There is NO worry, you can add money if needed or a data pack but if you don't your access would just stop not add data costs on

You pay £10 for the SIM....that's it, nothing else.

They then give you that £10 back as credit

You then get the FREE monthly allowance EVERY month which auto renews so if you only use the free stuff that £10 will stay there and not get used. I have £19.70 in my account from day one. They give me £10 on top of the usual £10 as it took longer than expected to port my number over. so I have only used 30p since about November.

So yes I suppose if you want to go over the free allowance (I never have) then you could use your initial £10

Thinking of GG. It seems the modt competitive deal other than GG is Tesco and they're a tried and tested network.

Either £10 for 500, 5000 1.25gb
£15 for 1000, 5000, 2.25gb

The extra .25 because my brother already has a Tesco SIM plan so both benefit.

It might not be as cheap for data but it's an actual monthly rolling contract with real CS and pop in to local store for if needing a new SIM?

They do say (in any customer service situation) for every unsatisfied customer they tell ten people, for every satisfied customer they tell three people.....
 
I was with T-Mobile for over 6years...last year my line rental was £10 and yet I was always paying around £30... ( no unlimited txt) switched to three 30day rolling contract ( 200min and internet and texts unlimited...went to giff gaff after 4 days due to carp reception at my work place.
Went to GG, 250 mins, unlimited text and internet for 12£. And haven't looked back since. Great reception light years better then T-Mobile or 3. Works a treat on streaming music via Google Music :)
 
Benn using them for ages, only ever had problems that have originated @ O2. If you're on O2 then GG SIM will work in your handset without unlocking, SIM is free you just need to top up £10. So worst case if you hate it is you've lost a tenner and then get a new contract. But you'll love it I'm sure
 
Everyone needs to look at Virgin. I used GiffGaff for a while, but struggled to get 3G in some areas of the countryside. (Northamptonshire) GG was great for built up areas, but found I could never use the allowance as never had 3G.

Did some research and as Virgin Media installed T-mobile, Orange and Three's fibre optic cable for the 3G towers, they get to use their networks. So you get all 3 networks coverage. Which means great 3G coverage for town and country.

I know I might sound like Virgin sales man, but only sharing this as tried Talk mobile (Vodaphone), GiffGaff (O2), Three (Great in countryside, rubbish is towns) and finally ended up with Virgin. All monthly sim only deals and changed every month keeping my phone number, with no hassle.

Virgin is the way forward :) (and you don't need to be a Virgin media customer to benefit - I'm not, as I can't get cable)
 
PS If you have an iPhone, you can get a micro or nano sim cutter from ebay and cut down the normal sim they give you. Works fine. Me and a friend did it :) I'm on £12 a month sim only, but loads of combos.

As far as I know all new giff gaff sins are normal and micro, and soon to be nano.

Our son got a iphone 4 and their aim went strait in.

I can confirm that - the sim cards are normal sized, and have a push out section if you have a micro sim
