Yes
im currently on o2 paying £25 a month, gif gaf seem to offer the same for £15 a month and has unlimited data, does any one use them ? is it a good idea to try them ?

I've been on Giffgaff since about October last year. Mostly been ok. There are a few hiccups. The website is rather unreliable sometimes!

A few people have been kicked off for their data use. If you don't tether or stream all day long then you should be ok.

I just have the £10 goodybag. Suits me. I was paying about £40 a month on o2. Saves me a fortune. Can use O2 phones so it was a painless switch. O2 retentions will also tell you a load of rubbish about GG. It doesn't cost anything to contact customer services. O2 will try and tell you it costs 25p a time!

A friend of mine uses them. I was quite interested when he told me about the charges. However, a month later he had no service at all for over a week. In all my many years, I don't think I've ever had a telephone outage last that long.

Another on GiffGaff here, love it, cheapest tariff I have ever been on.
So far no problems with website or network!
If you want a sim, let me know and I will send you one, we both get £5 credit! free!

I've been on giffgaff for quite a while not had any real issues with them. You just need to sort out getting an unlocked phone.

The only problem I've had is remembering to top-up the £10 goodybag I'm on each month but they're implementing an auto top-up feature soon.

The data is not unlimited, a friend was kicked off for excess downloads.

It started last month!

This sounds ideal. The only thing that concerns me is whether i could keep my o2 number. Not sure if o2 would get funny about wanting to leave

As GG use O2 for actual connectivity, would this not be the fault of O2 rather than GG?

In exactly the same situation, in two months my contract with O2 comes to an end and I'm intending going with Giff-Gaff. Mainly because they are much cheaper and partly because they use the O2 network which is first rate up here.

Should not be a problem keeping your number.
When you register online you get an option for that.

So do i need to get my old contract sim put onto payg sim ? Then get payg sim moved to giff gaff somehow? Sorry for the questions- if i don't ask, I'll just end up sticking with my horrendous charges ha ha

No, if you are already on 02 but the contract has finished, then the GiffGaff sim will work no problem. You just go online to activate your sim and they will change your number once you give your PAC number from your old supplier.
Have a read HERE

There is no problem with keeping your number cost's are much less than o2 customer services is a bit crappy if you have any problems ....when it was down for about a week this year it was a problem with giff gaff not o2 . I have been with them for a long time now and that was the only issue i had and I got compensation ....

every month more and more of my friends are moving to giff gaff and as far as unlimited downloads go there is no such thing anywhere ....

I have been with Giffgaff for just over 6 months with no issues at all, PAYG suits me as I am a very light phone user.

- several of the family are also now on Giffgaff and apart from the £5 credit we both receive from a referral, provided you top up £10 every 3 months - calls & texts to other Giffgaff users (in my case the family) are Free for an hour - just hang up and redial for another Free hour, which is very useful as one member of the family was only on a mobile previously and it used to cost me several pounds to have a chat whereas now its Free...........

My contract with Vodafone is coming to an end, thinking of trying GiffGaff, after buying an unlocked phone from Amazon.

In the end I ended up staying with o2 on a sim only deal. £10.50 a month and get 600 mins, unlimited texts 100mb data a month. Get free extra o2 to o2 minutes but cant remember the exact details

The figures look very good, a very economical way to run a mobile phone, but how reliable is the network?

Pete

as said above run's on 02 netwrok im following this closley

02 have had a few fault's over the last few month's

I've not noticed any problems!

Other than when I put my phone in the washing machine ive never had any network issues with o2. They used to be one of the few networks that would get reception at my work

Most of our family are on giffgaff.

Have been for a few years now, never had a problem, their internet seems quicker that vodafone most if the time, reception is mostly good.

Can't fault them, I'm the only one of 5 waiting to change when my contact ends.

I am also a happy Giffgaffer. Have been with them for 1 year with a very stable network and the 3G seems faster than I was getting on Orange, however, I also changed to a newer iPhone shortly before going to GG and it could be down to that also.

I have never been affected by outages. They can take ages to send out SIMs - I waited ages to get one for my dad and it took two attempts to get my replacement SIM out when my phone got stolen. The SIM I now have has been blocked and I am currently waiting to get it unblocked.

There is no customer service phone number - you do everything on the website. Every time I have contacted them I have had a reply quickly and they seem to be on the ball.

I have been given compensation for the delay in getting a replacement SIM out to me.

I just moved to giffgaff last week, from O2 it was fairly painless.
Got my PAC from O2 and took my number too, there are detailed instructions of the GG website explaining how to do it, the sequence of events and wotnot.
Lots of carriers are doing cheap sim only deals, its the unlimited data that clinches it for GG.
I hear what peeps say about peeps they know who have been kicked off for using too much but in all likelyhood they were probably taking the ****.
You can't tether or at least you're not supposed to ??
Anyway, the only slight caveat I can think of involves actually setting up the phone for internet, it involves changing some settings in the phones networking menus, there are instructions @ GG but the technophobes among us might not be too keen on fannying about with settings....I dunno.

I'm doing the 250 mins and unlim data for £12.00 goodybag.....so far so good

I've had no outages with O2, just innages, lots and lots of innages

can we stop writing that...outage....its the dumbest ******* word ever invented, its a cut...a power cut...the phones are down....the gas is off, I don't care as long as we don't start inventing words that make us sound like divs........rant off........:)

Have a look at Ovivo ? You pay for the initial SIM card (£10) you then get FREE calls, texts and data allowance each month.

You don't need to top up or anything the free allowance is just renewed each month and you even get that initial £10 back as calling credit.

I took a screenshot off their site as I could not be bothered to type it all

ovivo%20offer.PNG

Their website is HERE I have my wife and daughter as well as me on their as calls to other ovivo users is also free

I have been on there a few months now and its great, my only problem was my number took a little longer to migrate from Vodafone to them so they give me £10 for the trouble so I had the initial £10 from the SIM I bought (as they give that back to you) plus the extra £10. Do you know how much I have left after months with them......

£19.70 - so in 3 months of using my phone normally including the net I have spent 30p

Thanks to all those who responded, mixed feelings so far. Or, could it be a case of, those who have had problems have been given a chance to moan, and the vast majority who've had no problems have remained silent?

Hypothetical question I know.

Pete.

If it helps, im sure when they did have the reported issues they gave a percentage off the next bill as an apology.

Give it (gg) a try! No contract so ypu can cancel anytime. If you get a sim from another user you both get a flver credit. You have nowt to loose!

It has been another good 6 months for me and yes I believe there was one "outage" for an hour or so, but I was not affected at all. But other friends & family members who are on different phone networks report to me they occasionally have glitches -viz: texts being delayed up to a day - phones reporting they are engaged when they are not etc, so all phone networks appear to suffer from minor issues - if you totally rely on a phone, no mobile service can guarantee 100% availability or coverage – my mother’s kitchen being a practical dead spot for "all" phone networks.

I am still very happy to recommend Giffgaff, it appears to have some minor shortcomings for some people, but overall as a compromise it works very well for private individuals.

Have moved family and friends over - love the free GG to GG calls/texts.

Didn't use my 'goody bag' one month, so GG gave me another!

Forgot to mention on ovivo as well as the free stuff every month you can also buy extra packs. I haven't as I never even used the free stuff so no need to

PAC'd my number over yesterday. Orange have been a bit rubbish recently, and no option of unlimited data meant it was no longer the best option. £15 for 400 mins calls, unlimited texts and data is a great price.

Be interested to see how long it takes to get your own number back Phil, keep us informed.

Hi Pete,

i requested the transfer on Friday - the actual transfer took place yesterday, so appears to be next business day. Really nice not having to worry about extra data costs. According to the giffgaff forums they give warnings if you exceed 3gb in one hour - thats more than i could use in 6 months with orange!

Thanks very much Phil, definitely going to give em a whirl.

Pete
