Just windering if anyone has tried replacing the focus screen in their digital camer with one of the ones with a split prism in it to aid with manual focus?

I like the idea of being able to use legacy glass with my D70s and was thinking about shelling out the £15 for one from ebay.

Has anyone tried this and if so what were your experiences? I've heard that it basically means you cannot do spot metering if you do it but is this really a huge loss?

Any advice appreciated.

I put a split prism in a 30D (just sold) but have one in customs clearance at the moment for a 40D. Spot metering still works but you need to dial in a little EV (+1/2 on the screen I had).

I bought a Katz Eye Optics split prism focusing screen (with OptiBrite) for my D50.
Manual focusing definitely is easier with it if your subject's big enough.
It was a bit difficult for me to place it as near the centre as possible, but now it's OK. Note that it affects the focusing precision (a lot).
I tend to use the manual mode on the D50 and I use spot metering with flash on, so far with no noticeable changes or inaccuracies.
