Got an event to shoot on Sunday and looking for tips i.e. what's good and what to avoid.

Thanks

Lol Tom but not too helpful. :D

Sorry Robin...sometimes it is hard to pass without a comment.

Back to your question, the only thing I can think of is distractive backgrounds and ceilings if you are shooting at the top of the bounce. I remember watching this on 'World of Sport' in the 70's and if I recall they had a camera from above to see if the athlete was landing in the middle of the trampoline. (I don't know if that is a requirement of scoring).

I would try and get a list together of what the moves are, very similar to diving.

The best shot for me would be a full pike so you can see the face and the extremities of the muscle sinew, it will be quite quick so fast shutter and the lighting will most likely be naff.

Have fun.

I will be taking 1D4 with 70-200/2.8 and 5D3 with 200/2.0

No idea how close I can get.

I havn't shot it but...
I would think you would need to get up to a level with the performer rather than shooting up at them.

Things I remember from when I bounced about a bit, maximum extention is everything so no bent arms and legs and streight lines are everything with closed hands and pointed toes, when upside down the face will usually be looking at the bed unless tucked so if you have close access you could shoot up at those. A lot of the shots at height will loose the sense of height if you just shoot the person in flight so have a go at some wider angle shots but don't bother with anything below the bed the legs are not that interesting.

Thanks John much appreciated.

Thanks Tug.

Well I learnt....

1) Don't assume that you will be far away..I went with the 70-200 and to get the best shots I needed to be at the end of the trampoline. However it was so close to the wall a 24-70 would have been far better (or Canon should have made a 60-200mm !!!).

2) Remember to do a Custom White Balance before you start shooting as I had to shoot jpeg..although when I did a CWB they still had a blue tint.

3) The lighting can be truly awful.

4) I have a lot to learn.

I can't unfortunately as I was shooting for DE Photo.

Yep.

Well I hope the smart arsed moderator, full of wit and self righteousness, reads this particular thread, quote Dod;

'It is, quite simply, one of the best collections of photographers, with all levels of knowledge and expertise, on the net'

Any Tom, Dick or Dod can post ridiculous statements....?

Does that include this quote?

...and which particular planet or satellite are we visiting today then?

Did this come about because i said 'yep' to the shooting trampolining without experience?

I do have some experience of using a camera mind and shooting fast moving sports mind..

Mark - maybe he is on the ISS and they have a lack of oxygen :D

ok im new and curious.

what would happen if you shot a trampoline shot with a tripod , flashgun and a rear curtain sync. in my head it should give you a blurred trail behind a sharp trampolinist.

Dont think i will ever get the chance to shoot this but thought i would ask.

It may be different elsewhere but there were no flashes allowed.

Highlighted the relevant bit for you, can't get much more wide ranging than that!

Have you been waiting and waiting with that quote in a clipboard just waiting for your opportunity to use it?

I didn't wait as long as you have been hanging on to that dopey signature that says more about you than it does about original poster.

If only you were bright enough to realise.....

Blimey, that was a quick riposte. Why not wait till July 21st. & make it a nice round two years. ;)

Stew.

What a really insightful post for a thread resurrection. You might want to have a rethink about insulting one of the owners

no-one else has posted anything as quoteworthy... until yesterday...

Ha ha, sorry I can't get to reply more often and give you a decent quote (as if you'd know one) but I seem to be busier than you lot..

Glad to see the stupid signature dropped.

New photo is nice and scary. Creates the right ambience for friendly photography discussions I find, a metallic mask with laser eyes blaring out of it.

A good image that suits the forum, well done.

higgeh: you will never be allowed to use flash at any trampoline event.

It goes without saying that it's offputting to the competitors.

Not quite sure why you feel the need to keep coming on, resurrecting an old thread just to throw insults around?

Im sorry that my old avatar scares you, I have taken immediate action and replaced it with a fluffy kitten, this should convey the correct message to our members and stop you from having nightmares. Ive also changed yours as the old one was simply a placeholder and didnt reflect you or your personality properly, it took me a long time to find just the right image.
Unfortunately the stupid signature hasnt been dropped, it only shows once per page. Ive taken the liberty of adding one for you though, so you dont feel left out.
