Ultimate reason why womon should be screened at 20 not 25

No point screening them at any age if they don't bother to turn up to their follow up appointments when they've been advised to.

What's so magic about 20 anyway?

"We follow the International Agency for Cancer Research recommendations. The Netherlands and Finland don't start until age 30. There are countries that start earlier – Australia at 18, Germany and Greece at 20 – but many European countries start at the same age as us or later including Belgium, France, Ireland and Italy." - Julietta Patnick, director of the NHS Cancer Screening Programmes

I wouldn't wish cancer on anyone, not even Jade Goody but I can't stand the way she's behaving. My grandfather died of cancer and he did it with dignity. I'd rather be left with that memory than a pile of cash thanks, there's a lot more to life than money.

Have to agree with Steep. The woman has used what she has to make the best life she can for her children, noone can begrudge her that. And how can anyone say that awareness hasn't been raised? She's on the front page of every paper.

I trust that everyone who's moaning about her not donating her earnings to charities has gone out and signed up to donate themselves?

Hahahahahahahahahahahaha that is the funniest thing i have ever seen, i have entered:lol::lol::lol: Z-List Epic Fail:lol:

Shameful post  One of the worst I've ever seen here. Utterly heartless.

clearly an emotive subject. I have to say I hold the website with the same contempt I have for Ms. Goody. The sooner this media "circus" disappears from sight the better.

I'd far rather see more of Bobby Robson who has been confronted with cancer 5 times and uses his celebrity status to promote cancer research. Now that does get my vote, much like the late Roy Castle did too!

Wales, N. Ireland and Scotland screen at 20, England screens at 25 - looks like England is worse off than the rest of the UK

Australia screens at 18 so Wales, Ireland and Scotland are wose off than them. Does it make Australia wrong or the other three wrong? Seeing as women are more likely to develop cervical cancer if they smoke or have intercourse without a condom perhaps we should start screening at 14 in this country!

Dunno about Ashby Kev, but Loughborough (where I hail from) could do with starting at about 12 if that's the case.

Just read this from beginning to end and did'nt see the link but don't think I want to.

Jade is not a fave of mine but it is awful what she is going through, I can only imagine having to sit my son down [hes 7] and tell him mummy wont be around for much longer.

My eyes are filling up as i type this as he jumps about on the wii full of life.

So cut her some slack money wise its up to her what she does, health wise its out of her hands.

Some of the comments on here have shocked me and I only hope that none of us or our friends and family will have to go throught this, but sadly in the years to come more than likely one of us will.

three cheers for jade.

I suspect a lot of folk would have a different view if Ms Goody wasn't such a thick, ugly mouthy cow.

If she was quite likeable I'd prolly have more thought for her.

As I said before, I've already lost someone very close to cervical cancer, I don't wish it on anyone, but I don't see the need for Jades continuous media coverage.

the need is too raise money for her kids future and the media are just helping her.

Possibly because it has raised awareness in a way that no campaign has done? The NHS have been inundated with requests for smear tests. That can only be a good thing.

What about other cancer sufferers, they don't get the coverage or money for their families. What makes Jade so special she should warrant it.

You will have to blame the media for that one I suppose.

If the papers want you on the front page and you want to be then your sorted.

Whilst it is good in the short term I don't think it will have a long term effect. That is something that a proper campaign linked to a well established charity might have more success of achieving.

The fact that it has been nicknamed the 'Jade Effect' makes me think that the awareness of cervical cancer will be gone (and I'm trying to word this carefully) not longer after she has gone.

So if Jade wasn't getting the coverage and the subsequent money for her children, would other sufferers be better off? Any mother would do anything within their power to assure her children are taken care of, Jade is no different.

The point is that it HAS raised more awareness than "a proper campaign linked to a well established charity" ever has before.

Have you ever seen a proper campaign for cervical cancer linked to a well established charity before? I haven't (which doesn't mean to say it hasn't been done). My point being that she could use her 'fame' to far greater effect, something that might change the public's opinion of her, give them something positive to remember her by rather than just a happy coincidence that because she's milking the press people are becoming more aware and instead have a lasting effect rather than a short term one.

It's times like these that I wish this forum had a reputation system.
:shake:

You've only been here four days. What have you seen on this forum that makes you think we need a reputation system?

I believe there have been official campaigns many times. Yes, I agree that opinion of her may be different if she was overtly using the publicity to greater effect, but at the end of the day it is her choice and I don't think that we should judge her for it. BTW, I did hear that a large portion of Max Clifford's fee was going to a hospice and Jade had a hand in that, but I heard that from Max Clifford. ;)

Well I'm glad we finally found something to agree on fabs:thumbs:. On that note I think it'd be nice to draw a line under this thread. As much as I'm all for freedom of expression, threads like this can bring out the best and worst in people and don't always help create a good vibe on the forum. One day I might learn to stay away from them, but then I said that last time.

Well for a start some people give excellent advice on different things, and they deserve some credit. And when you have a post like I quoted earlier which isn't appropriate then it'd be nice to be able to lower reputation.

I didn't mean to come across as bossy or imposing, it was just an opinion. Sorry if it didn't come across that way. ;)

How many of you people that have slated me for my comments, made a comment when Miss Goody was accused of being a Racist. Did you defend her then I wonder?

I personally feel what she is doing is degrading and disgusting. She is using her media status to gain money from people, and also goods that she got GIVEN for her wedding free of charge. Her face is all over the press and media at the moment when there are far bigger concerns going on in this world. She is not a GOD and doesn't deserve the coverage as she is NOT the only person going through this. I have been through the suffering of cancer, 3 of my ex-girlfriends Grandparents died form it's various forms, so no one can accuse of not knowing what it is like. I would feel more sorry for her if she wasnt' parading the illness all over the TV like a medal. All the press are doing is creating a Martyr of her.

First of all, the race issue is completely separate from her immanent death. I don't know why you are bringing that into the argument. Yes what she did was wrong, and yes she got slated for it. What's done is done. At the moment the poor woman is dying, and that is of her main concern.

Did you know that lots of women's lives have been saved because of Jade Goody? Many more young women are now coming forward for Cervical Cancer screening which can only be a good thing. I read an article in a newspaper a few days ago, and some of these women were talking about how they owe their lives to Jade because of her legacy (They found out that they also had cancer, but they were able to act early to stop it from spreading.)

She also only wants the best for her children, I mean if you weren't around to see them surely you'd want the same. Oh and she's marrying her husband because she knows she will die. Please have a little sympathy for the poor woman. It's not her fault that there's all of this media attention. She might as well capitalise on it.

Straw man argument, introduced to steer the topic away from an area where you find yourself in the wrong.

She is using her media status to gain money from people

That's the definition of what a media personality does. If she was a cab driver I'm sure she'd be out all hours driving to earn the money

What the **** has that got to do with laughing at her impending death? You really are clutching at straws to dig yourself out of this one aren't you?

AGREED!!!!!!

She was foolish when the big bro thing happened but that has nothing to do with her dying.

To make fun of anyone dying is just awful.

Any decent human wheather they like her or not surely would wish her and her family all the best.

:lock:

I think it's getting to be about that time...
