Anyone recommend a lighting course in the North West?

Not exactly North West, but Garry Edwards is only an hour and a half away from you. (straight down the M65 to Colne, along North Valley road and turn right, past the Atom Panopticon. etc. Don't let Sat Nav take you down M66 and along the M62!)

Outdoor lighting etc

Studio lighting

ok, so both those are past events, but ask him about new courses coming up.

The Lencarta Intensive Lighting Workshops are held on the 2nd Sunday of each month at my studio in Bradford until November, and Jonathan Ryan hosts similar ones in Maidstone, for people living in the effluent affluent south...

Basically they're about studio lighting but the same principles apply to all forms of lighting including hotshoe flash.

Hi Garry,

Are all your courses "artistic nude workshops" ? I was trying to find a non nude course of yours.

thanks
Martin
Yes, they are now, actually a mix of portrait headshots and artistic nude. Most people find it easier to learn how to light skin than clothes, so that's what we do.

Besides, most start shooting portraits when embarking on studio lighting, and the artistic nude classes are actually the best way to learn, even if you aren't likely to shoot a nuddy ever!
Why? because you learn how to assess the subtle curves and hollows of the form, and how to enhance or hide them. A lesson where you can see the lighting effect on ribs , muscles and the spine etc., is far more relevant to portraiture than a lot of folks actually realise.

Honest!
