Hi,

As above, aim out of contract with bt who supply me with broadband +phone-line total monthly cost £28.14

My calls are with Tiscali @ £6.00 per month

Aim looking for the best deal/service.

I know all supplier's are trying to get us to renew contracts, who are you getting the best deals with.

All suggestions welcome!

Thanks

Sky offers some good deals, it's who I'm going to ove to when I get round to it, I'm also leaving BT because they're well and truly useless, not to mention a total rip-off. BT will offer you a deal if you ring them and say you want to leave though, but it means signing another 18-month contract with them, and what they offered me seemed more like an insult than a money-saving deal.

As for Tiscali, I don't have any experience personally, but a coulpe of friends have said they've been nothing but trouble (for Broadband at least).

No problems here.....yet :suspect:
£20 a month for broadband, line rental and free anytime phone calls to 01,02,03 numbers

We left Tiscali a few years ago after we had lots of connection problems. They were totally useless. We moved to PlusNet and have been with them ever since. We're paying £25 per month for line rental (through them not BT), calls, & broadband 8MB. Their connection was a lot faster and as an added bonus all their call centres are UK based (Sheffield).

Dont just go for the cheapest... BT do have their faults but are one of the better providers. All companies have problems and unhappy customers, am sure every time someone posts a recommendation there will be someone ready to post saying they had a bad experience.

Ive got sky, been with them for over 12 months, got the tv,phone and broadband and not had any problems. If you know someone with sky and they reccommend you, you both get £50 M&S vouchers if the offer is still on

Another + for Sky however if I had cable in my area I'd take that over my 3Mb link any day of the week!

Sky are superb, but only on their own LLU equipment - see the horror stories of people on Sky Connect, who are getting download speeds of 0.3Mb during peak times!! I'm with Sky, and it's great, but I wouldn't be if it wasn't for our Sky enabled exchange!

If I had to choose from the others, Zen & Plusnet would get my vote!!

The Utility Warehouse will probably cost you just under £20 a month for both line and broadband (depending on your local exchange). Customer service second to none - they have a couple Best Buy awards from Which. You could also take advantage of a scheme or two they have to reduce your monthly bills even more - to nothing if you like.

Another for Sky here as much as it pains me to say it, I hate the big organistion and lack of customer service until you scream!

We had an issue with speed and when we spoke with their technical dept they got us from 3mb to 16mb within a few minutes of changing a couple of things - filters etc.

Thanks to all for shareing your experiences with the various supplier's.

I have sky tv but in my area for broadband can only get sky connect?

Will check on some of your recommendations today and go back to bt and see what if anything can be negotiated before signing a contract.

Thanks to all again

With Sky (TV/Phone/BB) so another + for them, I was going to go with O2 for broadband as I have only heard good things about them but not in my local area.

Sister is with Virgin and loves there service (so are future in-laws)

I would avoid BT for internet (shocking service for BB ever since I have had their service + expensive) my folks are trying to leave TalkTalk also as the service is getting worse and the cost is going up!

Do not go on Sky Connect, unless you want bandwidth throttling during peak times!!! :(

It depends on your circumstances. My parents live in Australia so I've got a Tiscali package that includes all my broadband and landline phone calls, including free calls to Australia.I used to spend a lot on them and couldnt talk for long. Now I can talk as long and as often as I like. I just have to put the phone down and ring again before the call gets to the 1 hour limit.

I've got a feeling O2 broadband can be had for free if you go via Quidco (cashback)

Can't comment on the quality of service though

Isn't that using mobile? speeds are not too fast on 3G yet.

BT are ultra-reliable connection wise which is a big plus.

Ring BT up for your b/band mac code. They will offer you a deal which you should reject. When you receive the mac code, there should be a much lower price offer as one final attempt to win you back. I know as they did this when my dad tried to leave them.

we have just moved from Germany, my parents & sister are with Tiscali- they both rate it, I tried to go with them, but they aren t accepting new connections now- they transferred me to talk talk. Signed up, line is fine, BB was an issue but it has turned out to be the idiots who refurbed our house had wired up the sockets wrong- works fine plugged into the test socket.

Be warned though, although most of their lines are 0800, all the technical lines are 0870.
and I think its another indian call centre, if I had known that I wouldnt have joined them, I like to keep my money in the UK!

if broadband speed is important to you can I suggest you go visit a few friends and run a speed test at each of them, you'll find that most providers 'throttle' the speed, in Lancaster I get 3 meg constant with TalkTalk but when I visit Cork in Ireland I get 6 meg; also test the upload speed because if you're sending a lot of images for print you don't want to be uploading all night.

could also be the distance to the exchange rather than throttling. not bad for 6pm

Couple of things to bear in mind. With any company the best deals are when they have their own equipment in the exchange. They refer to it as LLU (local loop unbundling), and can save you a packet while providing faster speeds.

The catch is that if you can only migrate to BT from an LLU provider, you can't switch from one LLU provider to another directly. You can find out which providers have LLU services in your exchange by putting your postcode into sam knows

Speeds you achieve are dependent on various factors, chief of which will be distance from the exchange. Anything under about 3 miles (of cable length) and you will get the "up to 8mb" speeds. Anything over, you won't.

I'm with talktalk, very cheap, awful customer service but the product itself is fine.

One thing to note, regardless of who your provider is all repairs are done by BT Openreach.

I rang bt,they could only offer £3.00 discount,It took a while to get my MAC code from them, they then offered me a new router and some sort of digital package which I don't need!

Thanks for your input.

I am with talk talk which was a total pain in the @r5e to get set up but it is a lot cheaper. they are doing free broadband up to 24meg from end of jan which is good.

One thing to note though if you move your line away from BT ie to talk talk or sky etc you will firstly have to pay i think its about £160 to re-connect to BT if you ever went back (can get by this a bit as the post office do a cheaper re-connection fee) and also if you ever get any problems with your line and need BT called out you will be charged if they dont find a fault, charges will start from around £120.

Going to try 'talk talk' @ £18.48 monthly.

Broadband, free daytime local calls, free evening and weekend calls anywhere!

Have to wait up to 20 days for connection, did the application on-line so I will have a 30 day cancellation option.

Thanks to all once again for offering your experiences

One thing to remember, if you do get any issues once the sevice is live, use their members forum to 'raise a fault' it is actively monitored by their tier 2 uk techs so issues usually get worked and resolved in a timely calm manor Other than the forum you have to call their helpdesk and you will be :bang: :bonk: for ever and ever!!

I'm with BT and have NEVER EVER had a problem in the 7 years we have used them. They upgrade every now and then so speeds are usually well fast enough.

I always go by youtube for speed reference. If the movie downloads faster than it plays then I'm happy! :D
