These images are the front covers of the paper backs. Thanks for looking.

no idea on the books, but it looks like they used the same head shot on all the covers

Hi Russell,

I haven't read them myself but when I worked for Waterstones my manager absolutely raved about them.

Karin

The Winter Queen is fantastic. I read that last year and enjoyed it, made a change from the normal crime book.

I read #2 and #3 and more of numerous Akunin's novels about Fandorin. It's a fantastic and very interesting style writting, but I have no idea how it'll perceive after translating to English.

Each book in that series that I've read seems to be written in a different style. In effect he is doing pastiches of older detective writers.

tbh I wasnt that impressed.

Hi Karin, I've now read The Winter Queen and Murder on the Leviathan and found them very enjoyable.

I enjoyed it once I had got into the style of writing. Very James Bond/ Flash Gordon our hero.

I think they translate well into English. I much prefer the style of Walter Mosley but I think he is the greatest living exponent of this type of fiction.

I have read two, I don't read the older detective writers - other than Dashiell Hammett, who set a fantastic standard for the genre. So I don't know who is pastiching.

I quite like them----For me though the best Cop/Crime writer is Michael Connolly and his Hieronymus Bosch books.Sustained brilliance throughout the whole series.
Pete.

What I like about Harry Bosch is that he is growing darker as the series progresses. I gave all my detective fiction to charity shops apart from Michael Connolly, Dashiell Hammett and Walter Mosley. Farewell to Deaver, Cornwell, Evanovitch, Cobern and Baldacci among others.

I see that you kept Walter Mosley---I havent come across him----I take it you would recommend so I will check out Amazon.
Pete.
