Posted this yesterday.

I have it, and I think it's an excellent lens. It is great in low light, it feels solid, slightly noisy autofocus but you don't really notice it unless shooting in a silent environment. Sharp as a tack and good with colour reproduction. Highly recommended.

Out of interest, what's your current lens/camera line up?

Cheers for that.. At present i have a Sony A100 with the 18-55 kit lens, 35-70... 10 year old minolta lens and a 70-210 Cosina lens f4.5-6.5 IIRC.

Im looking to replace the 2 smaller lenses with a decent one.... and this seems to fit the bill..

What would you say is a fair price to pick up a good condition second hand tamron?

I have one too - love it. Only niggle is autofocus speed is not as fast as AF-S

Not sure about a Sony fit lenses, but maybe try Onestopdigital. I got mine for around £200 whereas the normal UK RRP is about £50 more than that.

I think it's my most used lens and also the biggest surprise in image quality. I always knew the 90mm macro lens was going to be good so I hoped the 17-50mm would be close but mine is so much sharper. For me its easily the best bang for buck lens I've ever bought and its really sharp wide open too.

AF speed for me is fine on my D300, and it never hunts.

£200? what that for a used lens?

£200 is about the same for a sony fit including delivery...

What would you say a decent second hand one would be worth?

Depends what someone's willing to let it go for really...

Normally it'd be £250 or so, but from HK £200. I suppose you might get someone going as low as £150? All depends. I haven't seen any up for sale here though.

Just to be controversial, I have one of those and I hate it.
I have used it twice in a year so it just takes up space in my bag.
My style of photographs don't include wide angle and I find the lack of IS to be a problem for me as I don't use a tripod.
I did some low light testing at home and it's performance wasn't as good as I had hoped.
Nothing wrong with the lens it's just not useful for me.
Second hand I would guess about £175 (canon fit).

About £175 used it about right - I sold mine (which I really regret) to get the new version with AF motor for the D40 for £170 IIRC.

Is the 'IF' version not the same then? (apart from the motor)

Would've got it if a)AF wasn't noisy and b)My Sigma equivalent was as sharp as the Tamron I tested in the store.

Managed to get one for just under £170... now im looking forward to getting it on the camera.....

:)

Had mine for nearly a year now, my most used lens, really reccomend it, very sharp, also its constant f2.8 which comes in useful :)
