Yes
I know there is tons of info about this camera floating around but I felt like making a thread for a change instead of making useless comments on other peoples threads.

I hear the AF is really good and has the same algorithms as the D4 - whatever that means.

Plus low light focusing is upgraded.

How did you find the AF in real world use ?

Plus is the rear LCD and new viewfinder OLED a noticeable improvement ?

Apparently the viewfinder info display was the first Nikon to have OLED....

I had one when they first came out & wasn't happy with it (upgraded from D7000) Focus was hit & miss.
There were quite a few reports of QC issues with the 1st batches, but I'm sure they will have got it sorted pretty quickly, so can't comment on the later ones.

Exactly the same experience, took it back.

I never buy a camera until it's been out for some time to minimise the possibility of problems. I still use my D7100 and never had any hardware issues. For my usage I find the AF OK, but I don't shoot challenging subjects such as birds in flight. It produces good sharp images, it was one of the first cameras to do away with the anti aliasing filter on the sensor, to me it makes all the difference. Would I buy another, no. Camera's improve all the time. On the down side it has a small buffer, and I need better low light performance from iso 3200 up. I recently used it at iso 8063, but software noise reduction was just about an acceptable compromise. The D7200 would be a better camera, can be bought at good prices as a grey import.

I'm not too fussed about getting the 7200 because I only do photography very casually now.

I have owned about 20+ dslrs including aps-c, aps-h, 3 different full frames, plus 2 mirrorless.

It didn't change my photography at all really except I could get much more acceptable shots in lower light with the FF cameras.

Had two of them the first one lasted 3000 shutter counts over 4 weeks and went tits up ,replaced with a new one that lasted 3500 actuation and 5 weeks before doing the same ,full refund and I switched to canon ,but there not totally reliable either .just make sure you have at least a years warranty even if buying used

Was that when first released ?

It sounds like a serious flaw if you had two go in a matter of weeks

About six months after release ,three of us all bought them at the same time so four bodies in total from two different dealers in the same city ,all four bodies had the same problems .,one of the lads who bought from the other dealer was forced into sending his in for repair ,the other lad had his replaced and the second body was o.k .

I bought mine new a few months after they came out , its still my main birding camera, with no plans at all to uprate it.
It does everything I ask of it trouble free and no doubt will continue to so for a few more years to come., if its of any interest most of the shots in my signature are taken with it.

I bought one about 12 months after they came out, nice camera, I never had problem with the low buffer speed, but then I didn’t do sport. Eventually traded mine for the D750,but that is a different ball game. No complaints about the D7100 though.

I get board and find it impossible to stay with one camera, I have had a d300, d90, d600, d700, d5500 and a d7000 on two occasions....

Boredom aside, what do you hope another body will bring ? There should be a good reason to change body or system, not just boredom.

I got interested in photography about 10 years ago and bought a d3100...after a good few years I thought the d7000 was an upgrade and upgraded. Turned out the IQ was the same, I just saved a few milliseconds not have to go into the menus. Meh. By this time, I had so many lenses they were in 2 bags..when I went out, the lens I wanted was often at home.

So I changed to m43 - wow ! I could carry every possible lens with me. But the e-m10 focus speed wasn't good enough for moving subjects..so I went to the e-m1. Better.

I've also had an rx100 m2 ( still got it ) Fuji xf-1, x30, x100T - the fujis have gone.

M43 has gone now too - I prefer the lack of noise in the dslr so I have a d500. Last weekend we were going down to Goodwood and met some friends in the dark at 7am, I had the d500 and my 10 year old had my e-m1. He shot at iso800 + 1/4s handheld ( Oly is great for IBIS ), I shot at something like iso4000. My shots had much less noise, and when I processed the photos it cemented the reason I changed.

So...unless there is a major reason you're unhappy with the body, stay put. Unless you're happy to pee money against a wall

I think people call it GAS. Gear Acquisition Syndrome lol.

Only time I was 100% happy when was I first tried a 40d, when I used a 6d in moonlight and I nearly dropped dead first day i had a 1D MK3 with L lens. ( got to get a 1D X some day )

Hi just sold mine was not happy with it . Using it with a vr2 18-55 and a 70_ 300 apo sigma both had a tendency to back focus alot especially when alot of greenery was involved . Subject tracking was hit and miss . And the buffer was appalling . Image quality was great when it was right . But missed too many shots due to the issues I had with the camera . I do have to add that it was a second hand body from Nikon returns department that had been rebuilt due to to technical issue then sold through reputable dealer .. shutter count was just over 1000 when I got it so may have had a manufacturing defect from The get go ..

Nice to see honesty :D go for it enjoy your photography your way

I much prefer the D7200, my D7100 was hit and miss on focus and not fully compatible with my favourite lens Sigma 17-50 2.8

D7100 was the worst Nikon I ever bought.

Shutter kept locking up, the AF was very poor with moving subjects (particularly when they were coming towards you) and camera would sometimes not write pictures to card. I got rid of mine for a D750 and it's been an improvement but still not bullet proof like my dear old D90 & D700 were.

I'd bypass the D7100 and get a D7200 instead.

Too many bad stories about this camera. Think I will re-evaluate

The problem is you are probably more likely to hear from people who have an issue rather than the ones that don't. I had a D7100 and found it to be very good. I got it close to release, at the time I did hear of others having issues but I found the D7100 to be fantastic after having a D7000 that had awful back focus problems. I nearly sold a 70-200 f2.8 as it was awful on the D7000, once I tried it on the D7100 I could see why people raved about the 70-200 f2.8. I only sold the D7100 to move to full frame.

If you are worried about getting a camera that may or may not have issues buy used from a shop that gives you a good warranty period. If you can find a well priced D7200 it may be worth the extra outlay.

I have one on 30 day trial now, got it yesterday.

One of the big draws was it is mint condition with 2500 shutter count.

To me that is barely used, I could easily have done that in a couple of weeks.

Had a D7100 for about 18 months and it never caused me any problems at all. The D7000 that I had alongside it did though......

Thanks, nice to hear from users who had one for a while

thats funny, mine was the other way around, had a very good d7000 and a d7100 that i had one hell of a job to get it to perform well, ( perhaps i had a dodgy one?

Had one for for af ew years now and can't fault it, works better with the sigma 150/600 then my D7200 does

I had a 7100 and was very pleased with it. I lent it to my Dad and he was so impressed with it he bought one himself to use.
Both sold now and I have a D750, but I still rate the 7100 as excellent.

Further to what I posted earlier in this thread. Purchased my D7100 in November 2013, last shutter actuation yesterday was 111,076, never any problems.

Well I sent back the d7100 and got a new d7200 with the ebay 20% off voucher.

Even though there was a £75 discount limit in the small print....

Still an unexpected saving and I think I will be happier with the 7200 for longer

Have one since launch and has over 40k shots with no issues at all.

Am I wrong or did you say on another post that you were looking to change to Fuji?

I have Fuji, Canon and Nikon but mostly old 2nd hand stuff.

Nothing like the value many on here have,

A couple of good pro lenses would be worth more than everything I have lol
