Yes
Over the last few weeks? SB-600's which were about £120, are now £150...
MB-D200 which could be bought brand new for less than £70 from one place earlier this year, but were normally around £100 are £115 now....

Whacking up the price of possible Xmas prezzies?

Yes I had noticed this happening. The 2 cheapest places for the Sony a200, Dixon's and Amazon both increased their price by about £30 this week. Wonder if that has anything to do with there being a £30 cash back at the moment

Yes I've noticed the lens prices going up. Just means I will have more time to save for new lenses. I had planned to but 2 more lenses before Christmas but I'll now wait until the prices drop again. Hate paying more than I know I should for something that will drop in price if I wait.

Choccy...

Exchnge rate really isn't helping at the minute, the pound is dropping like a stone and forcing prices through the roof.

The price rises are purely on the exchange rate, so I wouldn't hold out for any bargains soon. It may get worse before it gets better.

But it doesn't seem to have hit the second hand market, still some bargains to be had.

Only seems to be affecting the "cheaper" items though - but this could be because they are faster moving

Not sure if thats the case, look at prices on all items from the eBay HK traders and you will see that they are all more expenisve that they were two months ago.

I was looking at 24-105, and you can definately see an increase in prices. Not sure about Kerso prices, you would assume that these are also on the up as he imports the stuff from the US.

Seen the a200 creep up, and the 450d slide down. I'm going to wait until dec 26th and buy my camera stuff then!

Although in current climate, sale will start a week early!

Saw an article today from Sony saying their trade prices will be going up across the board due to the exchange rate pressure on the Yen so this could be more common soon :(

The pound reached 258 against the Yen in 2007 and now it`s dropped as low as 137 (living in Japan makes you check this stuff daily). I was wondering how this had affected UK prices. Given the increase which you`ve described I`m guessing that suppliers in Japan or distributors / shops in Europe are having to reduce their margin to sell stuff.

The appreciation of the Yen (or Endaka as it`s called over here) is a major problem for the Japanese. Not a day goes by without it being on the news. The Japanese government is coming under increasing pressure from large companies to intervene directly in the value of the currency, therefore, you may find that the pound appreciates somewhat and the price of lenses etc drops again in 2009.

Having said that, the way things are going it`s also possible that the pound will completely collapse against a safe haven like the Yen. Blame bad debt and the Yen carry trade.

Grays are saying:

Due to the present currency fluctuations, may we suggest that this is the best possible time to make your purchases of Nikon bodies, lenses and accessories from Grays of Westminster . With the current exchange rate of the Japanese Yen against the British Pound, we would expect all Nikon kit to increase in price in the future.

I won an auction for a brand new Pocket Wizard from an HK seller for £85, which is well below the normal HK price, never mind the UK one. Funnily enough it has gone out of stock since I won (although they relisted the auction the next day ) and they are claiming they are having trouble getting stock and may not get them again, so which lens would I like for my money? :suspect:

I've asked for any Nikon-fit lens that will trigger my flashgun

This happened to me recently. I'd paid in Austrailian dollars, and by the time they'd refunded me I made about £150 on the exchange back to £££!

I don't have that sort of luck, if I threw a fiver in the air it would come down as a court summons

Guys exchange rate is hurting us all at moment. Hwere is my e-mail I am sending out to anyone that enquired about an up to date price list.
Hi, Thanks for your enquiry.
Please let me quote for any Canon item for you.
I haven't updated my list this week as prices are jumping about all over the place.
Prices are quite a bit higher than they were 2 weeks ago due to the large fluctuations in the market.
I still endeavour to give better prices than the High Street Giants on all lenses and prices will drop as soon as the market picks up again.
I hope we can still do business, please let me quote for your items wanted.
Regards Ian.

I'd better start buying my stuff soon!

Well on the upside it means I will have plenty of time to practice with my kit lens and 70-200 F4. And once the prices recover I should have a nice warchest.

Looking at the 2 lenses I was after (17-40 F4 & 24-105 F4) they havce gone up £200 in 3 months. Doesn't sound too bad but that is 18% increase.
