Yes
I’ve already got a similar post but I feel that was more confusion on my part I’ve decided I’m either staying with what I have and make more effort to find time and use it or selling it all and buying in to Sony slowly

So the question is really any Nikon D850 shooters moved to Sony? Do you have any regrets?

As per the other thread I've gone D850 > Z7 > Sony A7R IV and I don't have any regrets. All are great, and all capable of most things. The Sony system suits me better at the moment, and performance is excellent, but the Z7 is nicer to hold.

Moved from D610 to A7III. Lenses were painfully expensive, but Image quality went up (partially due to better lenses) and eye-AF is great.

Stop it, stop it, stop it!! I'm trying desperately not to think about this topic!

I moved from a Nikon D750 to Sony A7iii and don't regret it at all. I'd say in comparison to the Nikon lenses the Sony options are getting more in line price wise slowly too.

Moved from D850’s and D750’s to Sony A9’s and A7III’s no regrets at all.

Thanks again for you responses, its crazy how quick things can change after a lengthy discussion with the boss (my wife) she doesn't want or expect me to give up the hobbies ive always had so i just need to push my self to get back out more often.

Still with the intention of moving from Nikon to Sony and I noticed your sig If I was to replace all my Nikon gear id go with A7rIV Zeiss 16-35 f4 Sony 24-105 f4 Sony 35 f1.8 Sony 70-200 f4 and Sony 200-600 not in any particular order but i think the decision has been made my adverts are going up today.

Cant actually believe I'm about to leave Nikon

You can keep the Nikon marque in your life. I have several pre ai primes which I really like using on my A7. In fact I got a new old one today, a 50mm f1.8 pancake and one of my favourites is a Nippon Kogaku Nikkor-H Auto 50mm f2.

Sounds good, although I’d still recommend trying the Sony before you buy to make sure you’re happy with the ergonomics (y)

You should check out the Tamron 70-180 f2.8 instead of the Sony 70-200.

I'm still on the fence about the Tamron tbh. No questioning the IQ though, that's great.

For you I think a different lens would be better, but you have a very specific use.
Tbh I shoot a variety of stuff with a 70-200mm type lens, but with Tamron making this it does make the choice very difficult. f2.8 but without tripod collar, focus limiter and OSS, or f4 with tripod collar, focus limiter and OSS o_O:runaway:

Probably a diferent scenario to what you envisaged, but I currently have a Nikon Z6 setup and am very happy with it. However, looking for something smaller and lighter for more "casual" photography, I recently bought a Sony A6000 and a couple of Sony lenses to cover the same focal lengths. I've got to say that I'm very impressed with the IQ I get from the Sony. Not quite up to Nikon standard, but of course this Sony is APS-C. The only downside is ergonomics, but this is only to be expected given the size of the body, and I would expect the A7 series to be improved in this respect. Honestly, if I were jumping systems again (I came from Fuji and before that Olympus) I would be more serious in my consideration of Sony. I should add that I have not the slightest interest in video, people, or flying bird photography,

If you enjoy using Nikon then why change. The grass isn't always greener on the other side.

TBH to a large degree it seems to me that a camera is a camera, and there's little charm about one particular make. The one thing I did notice was how much more solid and well-built my A7 felt compared to a D610/750. That may be an illusion since they're all high-plastic content, but it doen't creak or flex like the D610 (which felt to have about the same build quality as my entry level Sony A58).

I was contemplating switching brands on my move to mirrorless from Nikon D850 (Epic DSLR). I tried out all the manufacturers at the time. All produced great images but it was the familiarity and handling of the Nikon made me stay with them. I don't regret it. I know that whatever camera I'd have chosen that it wouldn't have held me back as modern cameras are simply fantastic. You really should only listen to yourself and try as many different cameras as you can to compare them for yourself.

I don't follow brands but if moving to FF mirrorless now there's no denying that the Sony system has a much wider native lens line up to choose from whilst the other systems have limited native lens choices or even none at some focal lengths. Adapters are of course available but the purists would no doubt say that adapted lenses are only a stepping stone and there is some truth in that as some newer lenses tend to be "better" whilst some of the lenses people would possibly be adapting may be comparatively old and less good designs and in some cases could even limit the cameras features and performance.

As a mostly prime user I do have to say that the 20, 35, 55 and 85mm Sony f1.8's I have are beyond anything I ever had for DSLR's and the 35mm f2.8 and even the kit lens are IMO excellent too. So why deny yourself access to a quite mature system just because of a Canikon badge you've fondled for years?

That was my reason for the change, I'd have loved to stick with Nikon but the native lenses and body performance (at the time) was not up to scratch/par, and looking at Nikon's lens road map it will be a while before it's there. It would be nice to revisit Nikon somewhere down the line, but for now Sony's right for me. I'd like to try the Canon RF system too but at present they only have one native lens that would suit me.

Why?

I'm only kidding. I had a Nikon SLR for longer than I've had any other camera except my Kodak instamatic and I suppose if I was to be a fanboy for a day I'd be a Nikon fanboy. I do try to remember, however, that camera kit makers are like employers in that you may feel an affinity or even a loyalty to them they'll drop you or your beloved kit like a hot potato if they see a better way to go. There are multiple examples of just about every maker ditching bodies, lenses and lens mounts when they move on so personally I'd give these companies about the same loyalty I'd give a Quorn Southern Style burger. I may like them but I do know they'll change the recipe or even drop the product if they see fit so if an ASDA or Tescos own brand comes along and seems better to me I'll give it a try.

I have no loyalty to any brand, I just prefer the Nikon cameras to hold. I guess there is a bit of Nostalgia too as my first ever camera was Nikon ;)

I'd be nervous buying cameras on the ergonomics of past models. For example I loved the handling of my Panasonic G1 and it was maybe the best camera I've ever had for handling and comfort in my hand but I just hated the G7 every single time I picked it up. The grip just didn't feel comfortable in my hand and it really annoyed the hell out of me and I just hated handling it. The handling and comfort (that's lack of) of that camera plus the good old shutter shock issue made it the worst camera I've ever had.

Here's hoping Nikon never produce such a dog of a camera.
