Anyone lock their mac to their desk

Looking for a solution to lock my imac to my desk.
Was looking at a simple bike lock type cable to a D ring / anchor bolt bolted to the underside of the desk and threading through the hole in the stand....

Your iMac has a small hole in the rear designed for attaching security locks commonly used on laptops.

Google 'Kensington Security Lock iMac' for numerous examples.

the MacBook comes home / with me.

The Imac is on my desk at home and was after something that may just prevent the casual tea leaf from grabbing it. Obviously if they want it that bad they will take it regardless but anything is better than nothing I suppose.

The specialist Imac ones are £60..look nice...

Padlock and cable £20 and do the same job...although done look as pretty...

The Mac is just a machine... covered by home insurance. The data that's on it will not be. You'd be far better off investing in a decent back up solution instead.

Virtually all cheap bike locks are so easily breakable that I really would bother. Seconds is all it takes. Some with as little as a BIC pen or a hair grip!

That shocked a Halfords employee once, when I went in looking for a really good bike lock....

'This is the best, Sir'.

'Can I borrow your pen?'

......Nuff said.

Once in your home they have all the time they need without passers by interfering and can make as much noise as they like if they come equipped to cut a lock. Kensington and other computer locks are even easier to open for the determined thief than some bike locks, but all cable locks are a total waste of money. And do you think they will hesitate at putting the boot into your desk to smash it open......

(its their next fix and some crappy lock ain't going to get in the way).

Even locks costing £50-£100++ are still susceptible....look on You Tube.... the thieves bible.

As David says, back up your data and insure the rest.... New for Old.
