No
My wife has just got a new job so we're leaving leeds for northants. It would be convenient to live in Rushden, but we don't know it at all. Is there anywhere we should avoid?

Me thinks they have all been evicted for rioting  All the best for your new life Dean, at least you will have a whole new world of photo opportunity`s to explore

Thanks guys. Forgot to qualify that our budget is only up to 120k because Ali's had to take a part-time post and my income isn't considered yet.

Oh, and we want the Northampton side to be close to family.

I've been there once to buy my car. Certainly wasn't somewhere I'd want to live, but equally didn't appear to be entirely comprised of crack dens.

It's a fair way from Northampton too as I recall (that's wher ethe car supposedly was!)

I don't know the area particularly well,
but i would rather live in Rushden than Northampton ;)
I never heard of any real "hot spots" in Rushden either.
It seems a fairly normal town.

You don't actually say. But is your wife's job in Rushden? You'll find it a lot quieter than Leeds.

The job is on Wellingborough. Ali is from Numpty originally, but we're keeping our options open on location. Lots of family and friends in Numpty so that's our first choice, but our price range limits us a bit. Just put an offer in on a place today though.

Oi. I know your plans, and the border guards are on red alert!.

2 weeks max otherwise we'll be throwing pitchforks at you.

Seriously, no idea, but know a lot of bods in one of the Regional offices in Wellingborough, so can get the low down....

We're getting closer!

Rushden is now a no-go. We're seriously looking at Kettering now as you get a lot of house for your money and we know some people there.

Dean, we live Higham Ferrers which is an area of Rushden.

Rushden is like anywhere, live in the centre it's a little rough and old in parts, live towards the outer edges and all is well.

Generally looking for somewhere in the newer build areas of rushden/higham ferrers/irthlingborough would be my option.

Would it be worth considering a rent for say 6 months so you get the lowdown on the area and decide from there where you want to live to best suit your lifestyle etc ?

some lovely villages outside of the towns but 120k isn't likely to be enough for there unfortunately.

Andrew, those areas are too far out really, which is one reason we've discounted Rushden. Kettering looks most likely now as we know people there and it's not far from Numpty.

Problem with renting is it's expensive and if the market improves we'll have less equity to play with. That and the logistics of moving again with a small baby.

kettering is nicer than rushden for sure.... everyone I have ever spoken to about rushden has not been complimentary.... there are some nice new housing developments around kettering now. for the record, I worked in Corby for 13 years, so know the area quite well.

Thanks for your comments guys. :)

As I mentioned here before, Kettering has a population of about 52,000, but only 8,00 unique surnames in the phone book !

Bring your Banjo !

Everyone has lots of close cousins.

Will be a lot quieter than Leeds, for an evening out around here we go to watch the traffic lights change. :tumbleweed:

As mentioned, loads of lovely villages around, but usually at lovely prices.

If you want anything checking out locally, PM me.

Haha! We're way past nights out anyway. Both ready for bed by nine!

My inlaws live in Higham

We were looking at moving down that way last year and got quite far through the process and decided on a house that was on the road between Rushdan and Higham (near the garage). Through all our searching we found that Irthlingborough was cheaper than Rushden or Higham and the high school there seems to have a good reputation. I'm not sure how far £120k but our budget was around £150k and we checked out a lot of properties within that price bracket
