Yes
Well more to the point of has anyone emergrated to NZ and are they glad they did??

Don't know if this helps but lots of beautiful black swans in NZ

We had plans to head that way but weighed up the pro's and con's and decided on France instead.
I've spent a fair bit of time working in NZ and may be able to answer any questions you've got.

Incidentally, I'm Stockport born and bred (well, Cheadle)

No but I would have loved to but sadly getting to old and have an unwilling SWMBO ;)

Im just on way to work but will defonatly have questions when I get back :)
My mums wanted to go for the past 3 years and has finally convinced us all , won't be till my bro 16 so that's 2 more years

A good friend of mine moved out there last year when he left the Army. He's gone out there on a working holiday visa, and is loving every single minute on it and is now thinking about applying for permanent residence, so it can't be bad out there!

I recently heard someone on the radio say that when you arrive in NZ you put your watch forward 12 hours and back twenty years.

Too late for me to go now, but I wish I had done when in my 20's.
Seems to me like a country that has a lot going for it.

Dirt cheap cost of living apprently, and stunning landscape.

this is defonatly convincing me even more :)

are there alot of jobs over there?

My mate found work easily enough and he's not the sharpest lens in the kit bag. But if you want to work, make sure it's all squared away with your visa etc.

thats good to know, im a hairdresser and aparently theres loads of jobs for me but my OH was wondering what the job situation was like there

When I was at sea I was all set up to join New Zealand Shipping Co and move out there. Unfortunately a woman got in the way, and I never did. Went there two years ago for a month and loved it, but a long way to go and too old now.

Don't think NZ has any of that poisonous snakes, spiders etc. mullarkey like OZ has.

I'm on my way there with a bit of luck. Just going through the emigration process at the moment. I'm hoping I'll be over there by July/August time.

welly whats made you decided to move ? how long does it normally take to go the the emigration progress ? where abouts you planning on going ?

Because it's rubbish here in the UK! Mainly that. I understand the emigration process takes around 6-12 months, it can be longer, can be shorter. I'm going over as a skilled migrant as I've got IT experience and a IT related degree so it's a bit easier for me. Planning on moving to Wellington.

yes.. welly in wellington :)

pmsl welly in wellington is that why you chose there (joke)

i know people in new plymouth and napier who have moved from england

I heard the climate is similar to England, just the landscapes 10x more beautiful and abundant, the people 10x friendlier and selfless, and the wildlife 10x more stunning.

I'd love to move away from England. My parents, however, would be completely heartbroken.
I think it's something I'll have to think about later in life, as I'm only 18 now and Uni is the most important thing for the time being.

And 5 million people in the same area as we have, rather than 60 million!

My brother lived in NZ for three years and I was fortunate enough to be able to visit him twice while he was there.

I can only echo what people have already said - stunningly beautiful scenery, lovely climate, tremendous contrasts (golden sand beaches, glaciers, fjords, etc), and lots of open space! And yes, the people are very friendly and very hospitable.

My brother lived in Nelson in the South Island and that's a gorgeous little town in a beautiful area (near the Abel Tasman National Park). I've not done the North Island but I believe it is not as mountainous as the South Island - still beautiful, just not quite as spectacular.

One really little thing that I saw whilst out there once that really stood out for me was when I was driving home one night back to my brothers place, probably about 10:30pm. Probably sounds a bit silly or insignificant, but I passed a young girl walking home. She was probably no more than 11 years old, but there was obviously no worry in her mind about "walking home alone after dark". I can remember mentioning it to a few locals and they seemed almost surprised that this would make an impression on me. I'm not saying that nowhere in NZ has any kind of anti-social behaviour type problems (I believe there are big gang problems in Auckland) but I guess it just goes to show what living in Manchester does to you...!!! Make of that what you will! ;)

Can't really comment extensively on the job situation, but when I visited it seemed that most of the jobs were based around the major cities (Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, etc)....probably no surprises there! If you're a hair dresser you'll probably find it easier to find work somewhere slightly more rural, but for your other half, I guess it depends on the kind of work he does. There are websites available that give details on the work situation out there, what visas you need, etc, etc....have a poke round on Google and I'm sure you'll find some useful stuff.

For what it's worth, if you have the chance to go, I would say take it with both hands!

Good luck! ;)

Private Medical Insurance is an absolute must. You will be charged for every trip to the Doctor with additional charges for any tests or procedures.Prescription charges are roughly £10 at the moment.

thanks for the comments , but unfortunally I don't think were going now :( , step dad doesn't want to go whilst his job is still safe . So unless he gets made redundant on the next two years , were staying :( It was his idea in the first place LOL

You get all that in Scotland! and no passport required.
