Yes
seems the entire country is out of stock- well the shops I know anyway - only place I can see is Littlewoods who want a robbing £1100 for body and kit lens:cuckoo:
Jessops are now quoting July for delivery but these are the good photo months:'(

Anyone know who has a body in stock around the £600 mark?

Very.co.uk has the body for £749 less 10% off for new customers so £674 (don't need to pay until next Sept). It's obvisouly £74 more than your looking to spend though.

Thanks mate, just called the rip off mis-advertising bandits called very.co.uk who said "yes its available" Great I said 'I'll have next day deliver as stated on your website', "delivery will be approx JULY 11th as this comes from the manufacturers distributor"
"So its not in stock then?"
"erm.....no"

click.............

Its amazing how many others also advertise online this way, surely its against the advertising standards authority rules?

Thats not on really is it. And they still have the cheek to charge £100+ more than other places!

I managed to get one 2 weeks ago from www.justcanon.com, I had to get the 18-55 kit rather than body only, but it meant I could give my 400D to the other half with a lens. Very well priced too.

Calumet? Park? Dale?

Their websites don't say out of stock but they may not have updated...

I'm 90% sure i saw one in Jessops in Ashtead, Kent last week. I would have bought it but i had the enemy with me :(

I think you are just going to have to order it from the cheapest place (Park Cameras as far as i can see) and wait. That's what i'm prob going to do.

There are a few on the Bay of Evilness!

Try London Camera Exchange ( http://www.lcegroup.co.uk/ ), it's where I got mine for the cash back deal recently. I emailed a load of branches in the south and most if not all had some in stock. They all mailed me back within 24hrs, I also got a 4gb Class 6 card free.

Because their new camera is sold out? Bit extreme?

Especially when the 550D is the best of it's type (imho as I bought one!)

Camera center in Cardiff has one- although its a return "cos the owner decided he didn't want it", and has £50 off also. If your interested :P

Not quite alex, now they have given me 5 weeks to do research the D90 seems to have much better reviews at this level 550D v D90 plus its £70 cheaper:love:

Well i must say I'm pretty impressed with all that! The D90 looks very impressive! Not only that but the whole system seems to be more suited to my needs so a bit of thinking is required here i think!

hmmmmmmmmmmmm:thinking:

One thing i must add and that is that when ever i read lens reviews they nearly always come out on top and you can get some supremely awesome lenses on the Nikon system and now having read some D90 reviews it seems to have better image quality than the 550d. Also the D90 has £60 cash Back until 30 June!!

yes that also made me think as unless I fork out for an L lens or £800 17-55IS the range is a bit limiting in the quality stakes - apart from a nifty fifty and the tamron 17-50 -

Problem is i would have to sell 3 new lenses that I have recently bought which would be a waste :( But I would rather have a camera that produced better image quality as this is the ultimate goal for me and the Nikon system does look attractive!

i had the same problem as well
i sold my 500d on friday 28th may and thought i would just waltz into a store and pick a 550d up
wrong everywhere was out of stock and they were blaming the old ash cloud
i managed to get one on the 31st may from jessops and it has sat in my rucksack ever since
at least its there for when i need it next week

I think I'm going to stick with Canon as I have just spent a wad on lenses. I will probably buy/order the 550d though.

I think thats wise Andy, I only have 2 lenses a nifty fifty:love: and a Tamron 17-50 f2.8  so if I go Nikon I'll need to get the same two with a Nikon fit as they are great lenses, hope the Nikon (whats Nikor?) are just as sharp if not sharper

I only have a Nifty Fifty, Tamron 17-50 & Sigma 10-20mm F4 (which i have tested and find quite soft even on tripod and f22 so will probably pass that on). I also have a far few EOS adapters for manual lenses but they are dirt cheap so not a prob.

I looked at the 50d as it's a similar price but it didn't look great on paper and I think it will be too heavy as i didn't like the weight of my old 40d which was a few grams heavier.

Another thing I have noticed is that most 'keepers' have been from my old Panasonic GF1! I really did like that camera but wanted another DSLR but again I'm just not happy. I have been taking loads of shots these last 2 weeks and I'm throwing most away!

I dunno........what to do eh? May look at the 500d. or get another GF1

yup, been there and also looked at the panny GF1 as it takes great shots, maybe a bridge is what we need but I feel I wont learn with a bridge- balance that with not getting the type of pics I used to get with a bridge and the quandry monster looms its head again:lol:
However, I do think that the 450D/500D/550D are not what I'm looking for and certainly not the lenses at that level, will prob bite the bullet as I'd rather be out of pocket just now but happy with the pics rather than the other way around

It's not as good as the GF1 although it looks and feels nicer. So far the GF1 has been my fave camera but may look at the G1 as this is kinda like a GF1 and DSLR in one package. IQ looks the same as GF1 so with the 20mm f1.7 it should be really good. I still think the 20m f1.7 is the best lens I have ever owned. I may wait for the GF2 rather than get another GF1..dunno:thinking:

The quest for my perfect camera continues......:D

So far GF1/20mm wins.

There just doesn't seem to be a perfect lens in the canon range. I keep looking and looking but nothing jumps out and says yep I'm exactly what you want and need. The camera that has fitted into my style the best was the GF1. I like the rangefinder look and feel plus it was compact, great to use and took decent images with 20mm f1.7 / 14-45mm and my old manual lenses. I As said i may wait for the GF2 as that can't be too far away.
