Plan to head by motorcycle from Belfast to the lake district in the next few weeks. I would alway go to Scotland but fancy a change.
Can anyone tell me the best( nice scenery, good biking roads, nice villages) places to go
I'm not a sports bike rider so not looking for big open roads
I've heard talk of a lot of passes that apparently are a must do?

Can anyone help

Wrynose pass is a good start...

Just looked it up and that's exactly the sort of roads I'm after ...... Thanks

I've ridden the lake district on a Pan European and I can tell you that some of these passes are not the best place to be on a heavy bike. It's not the roads that's the problem, it's the fact that there are a hell of a lot more cars in England than north of the border!! The lakes on a Bank Holiday resemble a Glasgow Rush Hour. If you are going there on a weekday (when it's relatively quiet) it could be fun. However, be mindful that a lot of the 'passes' are very narrow and steep in places with high verges. Reversing uphill on a bike isn't easy!!

In contrast, the north west of Scotland has similar roads (have you been to Applecross?) without the high verges and is often deviod of traffic.

There Honister pass, have a look at my pics on this thread its around Keswick area and honister http://SPAM/8cb7rwo theres also snake pass if you go to the former then theres Asness brige and the millenium stone on derwent water, park in the great wood carpak cross the road go though the woods to the beach walk right youll soon find the stone I have pics if you want to see them

Good because from what I recall there was no such thing! Go outside of silly season and you should have fun, definitely some good roads, didn't get a chance to enjoy them much myself, the wife was driving! :gag:

Yes done the applecross pass

can't help with any roads, but I was up in Coniston and had a walk around Tarn Hows this afternoon and can say life doesn't get much better. Beautiful.....and even more pleasing when it's only an hour or so down the road :)

The Langdales is always a lovely area and very photogenic particularly from Blea Tarn. Carry on past there and you can take the road towards the Hardknott Pass.

And any good campsites in the thick of it ?

There's a nice one in the Langdales. See here for write up and reviews. We haven't stayed there but have relations who have been and returned quite a few times. One big attraction is the close proximity to the Old Dungeon Ghyll Hotel which has a great Hiker's Bar.

Looks a nice spot, thanks for that
