first impressions are that the photographer asked him for a mean shot looking down the barrell of the gun, the gentleman then obliged. If not then that photographer has one very large set of family jewels.

dig agreed with the former, based on shadows but I don't see any of that in the pic

and you'd need stones to ask the question

though a valid point made is the soldier doesn't have his finger on the trigger

anyone know the uniform so can place the nation?
 
Looks a bit of a Gucci pose to me. Would be suprised to see a soldier/police point a loaded weapon right at the camera/tog - just never seen it done - where is Arcady when you need him?? :)
 
Gotta be staged, finger not on trigger for a start.

But Id love to see the guy fire around from that riffle like that, chances are he'd fall over looking at his back foot arrangement, and the fact most of his is resting on the back knee, his left arm isnt in the strongest postition either, normally more under the weapon then to the side.
 
Finger not on trigger is just good discipline, but what tells me it's not a confrontation is the photographer himself, he's relaxed, all business and not a sign of worry or nerves on his face.

Not from a pea shooter like that it won't. An automatic weapon firing a .223 round hardly has any kick at all.

I'll give you that he's not stable, but its only going to effect his aim, not knock him on his backside.
 
You may of heard this story, but it's true
The French army were giving a demo in front of a crowd loaded with blanks they fired at the crowd, one of the soldiers went mad and had live ammo, he put 9 people in hospital killing none.
Happened in Carcassonne South west of France last year
Not much to do with the thread but strange things can happen. :)

You say that i, but my mate was knocked over by a SA80, ffrom an almost identical position (have to much weight on the back knee that is). Yes the rest of the troop never ever let him forget it. lol

SA80's have heavy fast bullets (much impulse) this apparently has smaller bullets with less mass and less impulse ;)

No they dont' 5.56 is a smaller round, with less punch but more accuracy.:D
 
My guess is that the guy holding the gun is an airsofter ie playing at being a soldier, plus he has his knee protector on the wrong leg and combat boots with a zip up the side!!!

This guy is a wanna be not the real deal

I'd guess that the weapon in the photo is probably NATO standard 5.56mm calibre (which is .223 in imperial terms and gives you a better idea of just how small a calibre that is) just like the SA80.

I'm not really an expert on Amerikanski export weapons though... could be any calibre in export config.
