Anyone know anything about art?

So...

After getting back from college last night, and having learned how to mount images, I set to thinking about where to actually put them in the house. That's when I saw the limited edition signed prints sitting on the wall, and wondered if they were worth anything.

My wife doesn't like two of the prints, so they could go, freeing up wallspace for my pics, and also hopefully contributing to the new lens fund.

So I googled my prints and all I could find were a load of galleries that said they were sold out of these images. Couldn't find anywhere with these prints for sale apart from one site that seemed very dodgy.

So I emailed a few galleries, and one has (so far) responded, asking how much I want for them. It was a cagey "We might be interested".

How on earth do I determine the best price for this? I have no idea how much they are worth, because I can't find any for sale, which in itself could be quite a good thing. I'm seeing a 24-105L here (or maybe the Sigma 150-500) and drooling to myself. Or am I just being unrealistic?

Does anyone have any ideas? I don't want to get ripped off, and neither do I want to make these galleries snub me because I'm being greedy. I just don't have any idea where to start?

quick google says first artist sells prints between £150-450, second artist same print can be found retail for £300

Neither are my cup of tea tbh but each to their own

Well thanks for the comments folks. I thought about eBay, and am leaning towards this if I can't generate an interest from galleries.

-raathistle: You're right. Some prints sell for about that, but they're generally what you get them for until the limited edition has sold out. At that point, no-one can get another one unless someone sells one.

True, but they are massive (!!) edition sizes, 300+ isn't really a limited edition, its just a marketing ploy

Also, getting a higher price than that depends on someone wanting that exact print. As opposed to all the others which are available.

I notice that there is also a US edition - so not as 'limited' as you think.

To my mind these are the sort of things that you should buy because you like them - I doubt very much that you will get your purchase price back. A gallery would only offer you a fraction of the price they would charge anyway.
