clothes

footwear
protection
tips on hardware

clothes - layers, that way as you heat up you can remove them.
During play tips - shoot them, don't get shot.
Footwear - football boots if you have them.
Protection - man up :) gloves are helpful though.
Tips an hardware - I would of thought they would provide you with the hardware.

clothes - baggy, soaks up a bit of the impact.
during play tips - stay low, keep moving, watch your back.
footwear - good strudy boots with plenty of tread.
protection - you are normally supplied full face mask. Get the gloves - being hit in the hand bloody hurts.
tips on hardware - take plenty of money. The only thing you need for hardware is the paint bullets - and they aint cheap, it's how they make their money.

The team I used to play for won the Snap-on championships in 1990 and we were 2nd in 1991. Then we disbanded. You could say that I've played once or twice.

clothes - layers, you can remove them one at a time when you get hot. We sometimes used to play in t-shirts, the paintballs don't hurt if you're involved in the game, they only hurt if your scared of them.

during play tips - move lots, move your trigger finger lots more. 95% of people will keep their heads down if you put paint into their direction. Stop shooting and their heads come up, then they shoot at you.

footwear - boots, good tread, minimum ankle high, the higher the better, You've only got to step awkwardly on a branch whilst running and there's a twisted ankle for you. I've never been hurt by being shot* but I've been hospitalised with sprains and a cracked ankle once.

protection - sit in your car if your worried about getting hurt. In the heat of a game you'll not notice anything hitting you. A hot bath when you get home to relax the muscles is obligatory.

tips on hardware - Don't other with dragon smoke, flashbangs or grenades. They are a complete waste of time. Now, if you can get hold of some proper distress smoke flares and the site allows them, they are very useful!

Ask the site if they'll discount you for a bulk buy of paintballs. A lot of the sites do but don't rip the "p" out of them and divvi them up with your mates.

tips during play - ok alittle more from me.

You should either be moving or shooting - if you're not doing one of those, your not helping you team.

Beware of your feet, you may think you are well hidden behind a bunker only for your size 10's to be sticking out.

When shooting keep your elbow tucked in, this will reduce your profile making it harder for you to be hit.

i'll post some more "tips" later. :)

thanks all.

is there a 'lag' between shots ?
or will it fire as fast as you can do trigger.

do the balls drop feed straight into position after 1 shot fired ?

are the std guns i will get any good, anything i should be aware of, dont wanna be caught short in the field.
i used to go lazer quest years ago and being a regular you get to know hint n tips. n which guns aren't as good or what ever.

ps i'm not scared, so wont feel it, as you say !!
and removing clothes - you dont mean during game do you ?
i'm not planning on staying put and stripping while peeps try n blast me lol

the standard markers sites use are normally the tippmann 98 or maybe the inferno.

These markers "can" be fired at upto 7bps (so they claim) but i doubt you will be able to, or want to fire that fast.

You will have a hopper on top of your paintball gun that will hold about 200 paintballs, after each shot another paintball will enter the breach ready to fire. Sometimes the balls may get stuck in the bottom of the hopper, Just give the gun a little shake and they will start feeding agin.

looking foward to it now.

i hope i get a full face mask, only thing i'm worried about is it in the face.

i'd be very worried about the site if you didn't get a full face mask, you may want to consider a polo neck shirt if you have one, as getting hit in the throat (doesn't happen that often) can sting abit.

i've played before in shorts and t-shirt, so i wouldn't worry too much about clothing - just make sure you are comfy with what you are wearing.

Used to love playing paintball seriously in the 90's. Played in the War of the Roses (Lancashire v Yorkshire) several times held over in Selby. Also played in the North v South held near Wolverhampton where there were loads of pro-teams involved. Came back badly bruised that day :bonk: Basically agree with a lot of the comment above. Don't go running in gung ho as someone will light you up like a christmas tree and you'll also use a shedload of ammo.

I was stopped recently in the Trafford Centre by a company selling days out, I asked how much a box of paintballs (2000) was now, he replied 6p a ball when buying in bulk. Quickly worked it out and that was £120. Back in the 90's, we each got a box from the paintball shop for £30 and use them all day in tournaments. You quickly realise how they make their money. I'd hate to think how much 100 or 200 paintballs are nowadays!!!!!

Started off with a Sterling STP

And finished off with an Minimag

Lovely Smart Parts Barrel.

Load and unload the gun carefully....otherwise you will be spilling those expensive balls all over the place which is most frustrating.

if you're good, you can reload while still firing. :)

Don't forget to save some balls for the groom's firing squad!

I think the other guys have covered most things in the foot wear i would be tended to go with a army type boot if you are playing in woodland they help more against sprained ankles. Me and my brother used to play a lot in the 90's and traveled all over the country we had our own site for a while still got all the kit 55 almost brand new infernos 20oz bottles overalls fullface masks hoppers barrel plugs also padded head and neck hoods still got filling rigs as well. We are iffing and offing about trying to find another site at the moment but we may decide to sell the gear yet. We used to build sites for a company called Delta force we designed the castles plywood fields bridges trains we even made a 50 plus foot long galleon for a company up north
You should have a good time just make shore you wear a box or put some padding down your front

I started off using Splatmaster pistols with a ten ball mag on it, also used a pump action shotgun type and played with a team called Rogue troopers who were British Champions.
If you take the balls away they will not be much good after about two weeks, and most sited will not let you bring them along anyway.
enjoy it and lay lots of paint down

Last time I went, 3 of us worked in a small team. None of us got shot, we covered each others backs and had 2 people shooting forward with 1 person gaurding the rear - and swapping over every so often.

So my advice would be to work in a small team.

And remember the mantra

I'm up, he's seen me, I'm down (as in, keep your bounds short and quick)
and
No movement without fire (as in if you're moving, your mucker should be firing to keep the enemies head down)

i guess you could say i have done a bit of paintball in my time
