looking for feedback and user reviews of a hire site called lens pimp

www.lenspimp.com

Regards

Charlie
*yes i know stewart uses this forum, maybe he can impartially advise....

Well obviously I'm biased Charlie, but make sure you compare the total prices, i.e. including insurance (if you need it) and delivery (if you need it), and taking account of different methods for calculating the hire cost. We had a customer yesterday point out that L******p were 40% cheaper than us, but on a like-for-like comparison for what he wanted it turned out that they were actually 30% more expensive.

For example (hope you don't kind me mentioning this), last month you hired a 300mm f/2.8 and a 1.4x Extender from us, and the total price including insurance and 9am delivery was £123.49. From L******p, it would have had to be a 4-day hire at a price of £137.37.

But anyway, I don't want to get into a pricing war. I think our prices are pretty fair, we've hired out over 5000 lenses and we have 643 customer reviews saying we do a good job. If people find another company that's a smidgeon cheaper and they want to go with it, then fair enough.

stewart, bang on, my mistake, amazing how the little hidden charges add up! order will be with you in next few days, more 300 2.8 time for me! :)

Lens Pimp? Was that really the best name they could come up with? :D

My thoughts exactly Cedric..........

On another note, the hidden charges used to royally pee both Neil and myself off, that is why we price everything with the "What you see is what you pay." method on our website.

Now now, let's not turn this into one of those pernickety little debates over company names again, like the Lensbaby hoopla yesterday :nono: :naughty:

Personally, I think it was Len's pimp who was responsible for Len's baby

Ah yes, but theirs comes encrusted with bling and delivered by a bad-ass gangsta, who'll pop a cap in yo ass if it gets damaged :|

Nothing to do with this thread lol but on your personal website the wedding seems to of taken place in the future "Mark and Alex. 6/12/2010" ?? or am i being stupid and missing something lol??

I bet you can't pick the lens up and get a kick ass cappuccino at the same time. It's worth an extra tenner just for that

I don't know you from adam, and neither do I know anyone from Lenspimp either, but your posts are coming across as if you have to justify why people should use you over Lenspimp. Your prices do the talking, your excellent customer service does the talking, the name of your business and its standing in the search engines do the talking - you really have no need to justify yourself to anyone at all because the second you start doing that, it can appear that you are worried by the competition, and personally speaking, I wouldn't be if I was you :)

Chill!

Indeed, I have not had need of renting yet, but will def go with the original rather than someone that to my mind is attempting to exploit the work already done by lensesforhire, there is far more than price to consider in business and I wish more people realised it ;(.

Hi Stewart

Just been looking at those reviews, (I was the 2nd to review LFH), time has gone quickly now, it's been over 2 years! Well done, I am glad to see everything running smoothly

 But the OP did ask for Stewart to comment:

I think Stewart gave the opinion he was asked for with as little fuss as possible; it certainly wasn't an unwarranted hard sell. The query was all dealt with to the OP's satisfaction by the third post, and you can't say fairer than that. Soph I know your post was intended as a  for lensesforhire, but I can't see anything wrong with the bit of free marketing Stewart has afforded himself there ;) I've seen lensesforhire's name being bandied about this forum before, but this thread has definitely made me decide that if I ever need to hire a lens, it'll be them I use

I Know....for I was that person. I received an excellent email back from a guy called Dan at LensesForHire who did point out that I hadn't included all the extras which I would have had to pay.

I spoke to him today and he was extremely polite and helpful including phoning me back exactly when he said he would.

I am quick enough to complain when I get bad service so I am now giving LensesForHire a well deserved pat on the back.

shifting to suppliers :)

I used LP once when the LFH website was down. I arranged for a 3 day hire over a bank holiday weekend and to be delivered by RMSD, however they forgot to post the lens until the Friday morning. This meant that the scheduled delivery day became the Tuesday after the bank holiday, the day the lens was due back. It took several emails to LP to establish this and get hold of the RMSD tracking number. I rang the local Royal Mail depot and they brought the package round on the Saturday morning so at least I was able to use the lens.

I stick with LFH now and the only issue I had there was with City Link not delivering on time but Stewart rearranged the deliver to the hotel where I was staying.

I have rented 17-40L from them as well now and didn't had any problems at all. Everything went very smooth. Definitely will be coming back!
