I've received this e-mail from the German War Graves Commission about their cemetery in England, but I've no idea what it says. It's in reply to my query, in English, so can anyone translate for me?

Sehr geehrter Herr Yates,

ich danke Ihnen für Ihre Mail vom 01.07.2011. Da uns keine Verlustlisten
vorliegen, habe ich im Internet recherchiert und unter der genannten
Adresse folgenden Eintrag gefunden:

Google translate gives its usual comedic version...

Dear Mr. Yates

I thank you for your mail dated 07/01/2011. Since we have no casualty lists
present I have searched the Internet and listed in the
Address the following entry is found:

Perhaps that'll mean anything to you in context of your original question???

edit... at least Google is consistant :)

Many thanks. One of the links they gave me in their mail supplied all the info I needed.

I didn't know there was an online translator!!!

For those who don't know there is a German War cemetery in England! I'm planning a visit and wanted some info on the graves I wished to see.

Yup, that's where I'm going. I have been trying to find the location of a specific series of graves, hence my enquiry to the German War Graves Commission.

U33 that was sunk in The Clyde, if anyone's interested.

Wow, you learn something everyday. I'd no idea that site existed - it would have saved a lot of messing. Thanks for the link. There are 25 sailors who lost their lives in that event. All are buried in Cannock next to each other. I've worked that out from my O level German, translating the rest of the e-mail.

Curiously there was a 26th grave down there until the late 1970s. This was removed rather quickly when the supposed occupant was found alive and well and living in Annan, Dumfriesshire!! He may now have passed on, but an interesting little vignette all the same.
