There are Kindle forums, in which it seems best to avoid participation, but which are worth a quick peruse as the folk there are always trawling for a bargain. I let my sister-in-law do the searching and she emails me :lol:

Usually with sales that last a few weeks they will email you, but it is worth keeping an eye on the kindle twitter/facebook feed as there was a small sale on some horror books in early-mid October that I don't remember receiving an email about but think was on twitter/fb.
The main season sales are usually same with normal shops, Boxing day until early Jan, Easter, July/August (one summer it was 2 months, this summer it was just august I think) and one late October/Early Nov.

Damn that's why I lose out....no t***ter or FB grrrrrr
 
I'm not sure bout the cheap weekends, but you can sign up for email notification of the £0.99p book of the day.
 
a note on travel i have been overseas about 6 times so far this year and have had no issues with mine. but i take mine out of my bag along with my laptop. (i have the one selling for £79 at the moment.)
my mistake about the sales as i have so many books i don't tend to check very often how long they last..
Ruth if i see one i will pm you when it is.
 
I think the halloween was the only one they didn't email about, but obviously there might be more smaller sales in the future...
Also it is worth checking out EreaderIQ as it links all the free books new that day and the section i have linked to includes all price drops, and you can import your amazon wish list and it will then email you when any kindle books on it go down in price (you will have to update the ereader website everytime you add a book though as it doesn't automatically add it)

I had a kindle keyboard version which froze this year, it hadn't been out of the country and unfortunately was out of warranty. When I did searches online to see if it was repairable I found lots of cases of frozen screens though Amazon wouldn't admit to this. Saying that I ended up buying a Kindle touch which so far has been great!:)
