Does anyone here use photoshops actions that they have set up specifically for shooting sports photography.

Im interested to hear from anyone who has made their own actions in photoshop which they can apply to their sports photos. Would love to know what actions they have. Im putting together new actions that could be useful for me such as boosting vibrance, sharpen e.t.c

Hope to hear from other people who have done same thing.

Surely pitchside shooters dont have time to faff about too much with much post processing, i prefer to have the camera set correctly (for me at least) with regard to colour tone, contrast, sharpness etc, etc then its just a minor job to straighten, crop and caption before sending off to the papers.

I know some guys use them, mainly for resizing, sharpening and what not.. but as Gary says, there isn't time or need for anything further!

I totally agree Gary that pitchside shooters don't have time to faff about in photoshop, hence why having pre set actions already placed in photoshop can actually speed up their process as rather than going through photoshop sharpening it up adding bit of extra colour e.t.c if they had these as actions all they would need to do is click on the appropriate action and its done. doesn't really take a long time and waste any time.

No time to post process anything. Get it right first time in the camera, caption and send. Once you get yourself into that routine, it's all easy.............well sort of :D

My workflow is to ingest the cards into photo mechanic, select the top ones. Save to an alternative directory. Open those images in Photoshop and I apply my custom actions. Firstly auto levels, auto contrast and auto colour. I then sharpen with unsharp mask. If necessary I do a shadow/highlight adjust.

Crop in Photoshop. Then save at highest level.

Back in photo mechanic, open the edited images, caption and upload via FTP to the agency.

That whole process only takes me about 20 seconds per image. So I think there's enough time. Horses for courses though, and I was always told to apply the same PP for each image.

Same as what i have been told :)

at football i shoot tethered and mark the files as the match is on... massive time cut...I ahve photomechanic and photoshop open.. click edit and it appears in photoshop.. no faffing about with one app then the other... if photomechanic had a decent crop tool i wouldnt even open photoshop

I use Lightroom instead of Photoshop to balance exposure/WB and crop.

Just had a look at mine as I haven't used them in ages

My action is in this order
(light Noise Reduction - if it's a high iso image)
user defined - contrast and colour saturation
auto levels
resize - if needed
save
close.
