Hi All

Am wondering if anyone on here has the e-510? It has received rave reviews in the DSLR press and media and seems to be an excellent camera for the amateur photographer.

I have an e-400 presently which my wife bought me as a suprise birthday present and as I have several lenses already, I want to stick with the Olympus series. I think the e-510 will last me many years before I want another new one.

So, does anyone here have the e-510 and if so, what's your opinion of it.

Thanks.

EDIT: PS - I have the chance to pick up the e-510 with kit lens (14-42mm) here whilst I am in South Africa for slightly cheaper than I can in the UK - hence the request.

Awwww... just as my sign suggests (Cancer), it looks like I am a loner :(

Does nobody on here have the E-510...?

I picked mine up yesterday - what a beauty she is too.

We're mostly Canon and Nikon users on here unfortunately :(

I know Chillimonster used to have one but he sold it I think  I'm surprised he hasn't seen this thread already.

Was looking to sell it due to ligament damage in my right arm, but decided to suffer the pain.

Opinion....

Love the camera, it feels right, the quick select menu is great, the IS works a treat (I know, not as good as Lens IS, but better than no IS and gives a good 2-3 stops extra).

The kit lenses are superb quality and very sharp considering. I also have the 14-54 2.8-3.5 and that is a whole new ball-game (Stays on the camera most of the time as its so flexible)

The 2x crop factor is good for the long end, but makes wide angle difficult to get hold of (unless you go the MF route and convert some lenses - i think i have already sent you the link for converting Hexanon Lenses)

I went with Oly for the feel, and the quality of the lenses, and i think i will be sticking with them for quite a while.

Well it's jolly good to meet you My Chillimonster. We need to start asserting our Olymusish authority around these here parts eh!

:):)

I just bought the E-510 and am loving it. First real test will be on my new puppies when I get home from SA this weekend. While I have been a way my wife bought two new King Charles Cavalier pups - can't wait to see them... oh, and my wife and kiddies of course :)

This is a great resource for Oly users...

http://myolympus.org/

It started up back when I was still using the Oly C5050 and (as now) uses a yahoo group to communicate via email. It has grown with the new models and has details on the cameras and accessories for them.

If I hadn't spotted a great deal on the 20D I'd have probably gone for an Oly when I was first buying DSLR. Still think the olys are good cameras but I'm glad I went with Canon ;)

OK then, I guess the first thing I need to do in my attempt to conquer this forum is this

:olympus:

:)

i have a 410 and am very happy with it. Looked at the 510 but didn't need the IS.

I particularly like the light weight and the fact that it is so small. The menus are easy to follow and the main things I need to change are easy to get at.

Lets see the results then! :naughty: ;)

King.

No thanks. I spent 30+ years taking pictures to please other people, these days I only take pictures to please me.
