Hi there,

I'm looking to get the Nikon 16-85mm f3.5-5.6G VR ED AF-S DX and I wondered if anyone had any experience of this lens. I imagine that at the wider end, 16mm should be more than enough for landscapes (allowing for crop factor) and 85mm will definitely be enough for the zoom end (again allowing for crop factor). Since it's a VR II lens, I'm quite tempted at about the £400 mark to use it as an everyday lens.

Does anyone have any experience of the lens?

Many Thanks

I've been using one as an everyday lens on my D60 for the past 6 months & it is very good indeed. It is sharp, feels good in the hand - no slip on the zoom, and is a nice weight. I have certainly found 16mm quite wide enough and for most of my work the 85mm end is adequate. If not I switch to the 55-200.

exc walkabout lens, definately wide enough for landscape at 16mm and protraiture at the other end.

I had one on my D300, a lovely lens and a perfect walkabout. Go for it.
