Anyone have a sunpak 120j and battery pack...

Raises hand.

The hv battery pack for it is a pain in the arse, as mine is getting on and they are now only available (for geiger counters) and cost over 100 quids.

No, not having it.

One went on ebay a few weeks ago for 200 quid.

Bah... Typical that everyone wants one now when before zack arias, no one gave a monkeys!

Shame, as they have good power, great creative possibilities and infinitely more portable than my geminis!

You could look for a 622 with bare bulb head and sort out your own dish?

622 bares are rarer than 120j, unfortunately, as the bare bulb was an optional accessory.

If you ever do find one, dont bother with the hv pack, and just get a quantum and their Sunpak cable.

I think the power thing is misnomer, they have a fairly standard guide number of 120. The bare bulb is just more efficient with many modifiers than flat heads.

I haven't used it much since getting my Quadra.

Your right, in fact since getting my lencarta safari's last year, then onto the Gemini monoblocks now with the portable powerpack, I wouldn't bother with such things, but travelling to africa with that kit is a real no no, and I prefer to use bare bulb than speedlights but I think in this case it will have to be.

Take note nikon, some of us still want portable bare bulb flashes!!!

Eli Quadra.

Head fits in your jacket pocket.

Battery on shoulder.

Nothing else like it.

Aye its very nice, but at £1500 from WEX its a bit steep!! I dont mind shelling out a couple of hundred quid for something like a 120J on fleabay, but that kind of money is a serious investment in kit.

If I was spending that kind of cash, I would be looking to add a bit more and go profoto to replace my bowens!

Thanks for the ideas though. I guess I will just have to be creative with a couple of sb's and some modifiers :D

Profoto heads dont fit in your pocket or weigh less than an sb800 (minus battery obviously).

I know, what I meant was i would rather invest that kind of money in gear i could use here, or if I was shelling out that kind of cash, I would just pay the extra £200 for baggage allowance and take my bowens instead...

just wanted a small portable barebulb nice and cheap was all, if I could rent a 120j or similar that would be perfect :D

Better read post 7...

Safaris dont fit in your pocket either, let alone your carry on.

I reckon I could lend you mine.

I'm sure we could come to some sort of arrangement, maybe involving one of your portraiture courses.;):D

I'm just sorting a Quantum Turbo battery pack for mine.
I've just phoned Robert White's (which turns out to be about a mile and a half from my house!) and the lady there was really helpful, pointing me to compatibility guides and the relevant models. I'm popping down there tomorrow afternoon so I shall see how it goes but I feel the wallet might be sore afterwards.;)
