Having just put my new website together I'm now looking to work on SEO so the first place to start is building up additional links, this is of mutual benefit so if anyone has a photography based website with a links page and wants to exchange with my site feel free to post it on here

Thanks

Simon

Your photographs are superb and you obviously have an eye for a good picture so I would continue to work on them.

The only thing I found on your site was that the first page pictures, although showing a link type cursor, did nothing when clicked upon - I would suggest that the photos displayed could be a lot larger to really catch the eye.

And they can be easily reduced in filesize without affecting the image size or quality by using Easy Thumbnails.

.

isnt link exchanging detrimental to SEO? i thought that was a frowned upon thing from google? i seem to remember they have to be organic.

pretty much although it doesnt harm to do this i would advise against it and and as you said the organic / onwe way link to your site is the one that is going to help

for example facebook set a page up and each post put your web adress / url down , link a siggy to your site all one way links

you use to be able to get free link checkers to see where your links are coming from but they seem to be disapering very fast and you now have to pay for them

From what I've read I thought it was "link farms" that caused the damage, my understanding was that exchanging links with fellow photographers IS organic.

Thanks for the FB advice but I'm guessing you didn't check out my FB link in my signature, already started to do that

ok for one it does not cause no damage to exchange links

google crawl the web with a bot or spider cant remember the eact term any way when they look at your site it read's the info from your site and logs it for google to post the rank etc

now what happend a few years ago is google stopped its bots from going into a site looking at the exchange links and then going to other sites in a mulitiple format now it will red jsut one of them link and that is it so basicall exchanging link becomes almost useless

this is from our webhosting company and say any links going in one direction will pretty much only work

your facebook in our signature i not what i am talking about you need to link your facebook page aswell as your own website too but in every post on facebook you make you ned toadd yr url as this is giving the one way for google to looks at the mor the better

too many books and advise is out of date i get all the info from a dedicated google trained team in the hosting company

Yes thanks, as mentioned in the previous post though I'm already doing this, also started with Google+ and started posting in other forums. Many articles now mention the increased importance of backlinks over keywording, which google is now wise to, what's the best way to obtain organic backlinks is link exchange isn't effective?

that is something i have been looking into there is not alot of places that let you direct links only but try places like yell.com and places similar on the phone number buy a sim card and use the number for the listing or dont add it jsut do the url that way it is another site to have your url on

othe then this there is not alot you can do just pick up a odd one here and there ie forums ,facebook , google plus , twitter , linkin etc as youalready are

keywords are essential still , make sureyou have a good about me page listing everything about your photography , why you like it , why did you start it , what kit do you use , where you are ie town not full adress add asmuch info on to all pages and submit a sitemap too google analytics

my honest opinion is subscribe to lynda.com and watch a video on the seo it is a good site and you can subscribe for a month or six months your choice but have some very good videos on this kind of thing seo is not as easy as people make out to be a few simple links and a few keywords is utter crap it can take a long time to perfect it

mine is on 1st page of google but most of that is due to the correct key words and a good sitemap but once you know how to attack if you need to adjust it then you know how to make it work

the above code is taken from your site have a look if it makes no sense dont worry to much it still throws me now and again not looked at it in a while

met names is a vital part to a good site too getting the meta tags sorted also know as keywords there is very little there you need to have a look at the meta and get some good metaname tags done

the met names are more of description then individual names to represent your site

ie one's i would use
simon kitchen
landscape photographer
landscape phoography
award winning photography
DISCOVER SCENIC WALES CALENDAR 2013
ISLE OF ANGLESEY MONOPOLY GAME
i see you have awards comin out of your ears so use this to help when people search for monopoly if you have a meta tag with that in there is a good chance they will bring you up or atleast be on the 1st page

a linky for you to have a look at from google http://support.google.com/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=79812

Love your site and photos Simon. I'll certainly tell our local photography club about it.

I agree but most of them are russian porn sites! How do I stop that?
