My lady and me are thinking of spending the few days between Xmas and New Year in a nice cozy cottage with log fire, peace and quiet and all that stuff.

Location not really important but picturesque surroundings would be good (may take the camera :p). Max 2-3 hours drive from Milton Keynes would be good too.

Can anyone recommend a suitable property from experience or knowledge?

Thanks in advance

House on the Sea comes to mind; perfect getaway and ever so romantic.

Or, check out the Unique Homes Website; they have things from a good few £££ per day to ££££ per day.

Spent a week in a cozy cottage in September, unfortunately it was in Howick on the borders of Scotland. 50yds from the sea and not only pitch black at night but almost silent. Just the sound of the waves lapping the shore and the crackle of coal on the fire.

It was the best thing for my health in years :D

appreciate these are more than 2-3 hrs from MK but the scenery and photography opportunities are simply outstanding..........

clicky here..........

We had "The Barn, Selset, middleton in Teesdale....."

Will be going back.

We always take the dogs up to Scotland a couple of times a year and stay in 'cosy cottages' each time, remote and log fire - these are our only two requirements each time!!

We have always booked through:

www.cottages4you.co.uk

They have properties all over the UK, we've never once been disappointed xx

I've used these before, but haven't been on it a while...... seems its now south coast only rather than whole of UK

Cottages4you are brilliant. Stayed in Manchester area few years back with the family!!

Very popular time of year for such holidays. Getting a booking may not be easy and expect the rent to be through the roof.

I rented THIS place a few yrs ago and intend to return, cosy cottage, open fire, tick all your boxes and nice area & people as well..

I think MK is a fair way from cornwall..

Although from what I've heard of MK, almost anywhere would be more picturesque! :D

Cornwall/Devon is nice though, although not so much snow as further north typically. Dartmoor is gorgeous and quiet in winter - although, you would need to be aware of the ability for a foot or 2 of snow to fall extremely quickly!
