Yes
How do you get on with it? or the 500D also?
Thanks.

I have the 550D - it's going quite nicely. I've never used a DSLR before and get not entirely unsatisfactory results from it. The star trails in my avatar were taken with it and the kit lens, 18-55 IS.

Can't compare it to the 500D though, I'm afraid.

Jessops have the 600D in so the price seems to be going down.

I ended up borrowing one of these for a couple of weeks while mine was in the shop getting fixed. I was surprised how impressed i was tbh. Nice resolution with a decent lens on the front, did everything i expected of it.

I was thinking new because of warranty, but I've trodden the boards for months without buying anything.New to DSLR.I was looking at bridge cameras while in Jessops but they seemed *fiddly".Did the 485 include lens?

It did, yes - the body and the 18-55 kit lens. The UK model, so not an import.

It's listed as £629, but bought online (although collected in-store) and there's a 7% discount on anything over £600. The discount code is 7600, I believe.

Yes! 50D was too heavy, too much noise even at low ISO, banding at high ISO, no video mode! The 550D is nice and light, I dont mind it hanging around my neck all day, high ISO pictures are cleaner and most importantly, no banding! Also the video mode is superb. The only thing I miss from the 50D is the higher fps and the shutter sound, which is irrelevant to pictures anyway.

Don't understand some of the terms but sounds good.I'm getting interested.:)
I have heard it's good in low-light, if that makes sense.Banding?

I looked on that Huntingdon site..can't see a mention of % discount.

Had 550D since Christmas and most impressed with the quality compared to my old D50 - getting used to the controls in different positions!

Had my 550d for 1 week. It's my first venture into DSLRs having owned an old EOS 300 film jobbie, and I love it.

For what it's worth, the best £80 I have ever spent was on the Canon 50mm f1.8 to go with it.

Do it.

I don't see much noise on my 50d even at 1600 iso??? Certainly don't see any at low iso's.

In fact i found the noise handling of the 50d was almost the same as the 7d, which shares the 550d sensor!

Yeah just watched that actually lol. Still cant decide if Id use the video enough to warrant getting the 550D over the 50D

Well I think each has its pro's and con's when weighed against each other.

If I was going to make a choice based purely on the whole I would get the 50 over the 550, the video doesn't interest me (i have a miniDV camcorder for that).

If you want to shoot fast action sports or birds I think the better focusing on the 50D would benefit you.
Like DigitalRev says its a "proper" camera.
