anyone got bluebells yet?

Loads coming up in West Oxfordshire but they probably need a little longer to full open.

Thanks for the compliments both! It was a really special morning, well worth getting up for.

I had a very quick reccy to Winkworth today and the carpets of Bluebells are out and looking pretty good. They may open up a bit more in the next couple of days though.

I went for a walk down at Wakehurst Place in Ardingly today and there are tonnes of bluebells out.

We went out to Linfood Woods in Milton Keynes yesterday and there are loads of them out. managed to get a few nice pictures which I am happy with.

Lots of Bluebells at Bowood, and the rhododendrons are just flowering as well.

Does anyone live in Cheshire and know of any bluebell woodlands? The one I used to go as a child has been built on now.:shake:

Gareth,

I haven't personally been to any of these places but I was looking on google maps and the "explore this area" tab which drops local photos onto the map.

This did show a few shots of bluebell woods and state where the photos had been taken. I seem to recall seeing some just outside of Northwich on there.

Regards

Mark

H:shrug:as anyone got a good spot in west Yorkshire to capture these little bouties

I think I've seen something about some near Northwich. Loads of the guys at work are from Northwich so I'm going to do some investigating today.

Looking good at West Woods nr Marlborough. Going back for some proper shots as the above was from a reconnaissance mission!

Foxley Wood in Norfolk still looks good.

Some great pics been posted here. Really like that first one of yours Mark. Any chance you could share the technical stuff on that shot?

There is quite a few on the orchard at work. Must get up there with the cam at some point while the weather is still nice.

Patrick, Thanks :)

I wish I could share lot's of technical insight into this shot, but I just looked at it in Lightroom, and saw that it was taken with my trusty Canon G9 so not much to share!!! I had forgotten, but I now remember now being in such awe of the light that morning that though I had my full kit with me, I just pottered around with the G9 as I didn't want to miss anything! The big decisions that morning was what to do to make sure you don't miss the light ;) So outcame the G9!

I always shoot RAW, and mostly in AV mode. Other than that it was a case of pointing where I wanted to meter off, then recomposing and shooting.

I always do a bit of work in photoshop, but usually it's controlling colour balance and levels - and on this shot that was all that was done.

Hope this helps,

Mark

They were just starting to stick their heads up in the lake district this weekend..

Got a few in my orchard, unfortunately I had to move some due to a trench that needed digging. The transplant looks successful I am pleased to say.

Out of interest there are 2 types of blue bells the English variety can be recognised by all the "bells" growing out of the same side of the stem , getting quite rare now. The other type is the continental variety and they have the "bells " growing out of both sides of the stems. You can see the difference in the pictures posted above by other members.

Post 37 = Continental
Post 25+58 = English

I also think the bluebells are a bit late this year, but haven't actually been up to my local aboretum, Winkworth, to see for sure. I'm hoping to head up there at somepoint tomorrow.

Last year they were out in full glory at the very end of April - luckily coupled with quite a few misty mornings.

Yes, yes they are out in full!!

Does anyone know any good bluebell locations somewhere on the way from somerset to north wales?

The best shots I have seen on flickr seem to be from ashridge or central/eastern uk...
